UFC Newark on ESPN 5 Preview
Image courtesy: Prucenter website We are just two weeks ahead of UFC Newark. Poster released and card just got officially announced yesterday (after Volkan Oezdemir vs Ilir Latifi was moved again to UFC Uruguay). The event will take place at Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey on August 3rd. Even though that card might not attract hardcore and casual fans, it's still worth checking out, particularly for the main event. I'll spare you the gossip and fuss around Colby - Lawler past relationship. That matchup makes a lot of sense; Colby Covington (current interim Welterweight champ, 14-1-0) is on a 6 fights win streak and most probably one fight away from a title shot vs Kamaru Usman, while Robbie Lawler (28-13-0) will look to bounce back from 2 losses in a row. Image courtesy: Wikimedia CommonsStick around if the clash of veterans Clay Guida (35-18-0) vs Jim Miller (30-13-0) is something of interest to you. Both fighters come off a win, respectively against B.J. Penn and Jason Gonzalez. On a side note Clay recently got inducted into UFC Hall of Fame. Aside from the main event, other matchups worth a look are Darko Stošić (13-2-0) vs Kennedy Nzechukwu (6-1-0) and Joaquim Silva (11-1-0) vs Nasrat Haqparast (10-2-0). The four unranked fighters will seek to put on a great performance to climb up the rank in their respective division and earn more attention. I'll definitely follow Nasrat Haqparast. German prospect of 23 years old and trained by Mr. Firas Zahabi. I believe he's a guy to keep an eye on in the coming years. Here's the card below: ~ MAIN CARD ~ Welterweight (170 lb or 77 kg) Colby Covington (title contender) vs. Robbie Lawler ~ CO-MAIN CARD ~ Lightweight (155 lb or 70 kg) Clay Guida vs. Jim Miller ~ PRELIMINARY CARD ~ Lightweight (155 lb or 70 kg) Joaquim Silva vs. Nasrat Haqparast Light heavyweight (205 lb or 93 kg) Darko Stošić vs. Kennedy Nzechukwu Welterweight (170 lb or 77 kg) Mickey Gall vs. Salim Touahri Women's flyweight (125 lb or 57 kg) Antonina Shevchenko vs. Lucie Pudilova Middleweight (185 lb or 84 kg) Gerald Meerschaert vs. Trevin Giles Lightweight (155 lb or 70 kg) Scott Holtzman vs. Dong Hyun Ma Welterweight (170 lb or 77 kg) Claudio Henrique da Silva vs. Ramazan Emeev Flyweight (125 lb or 57 kg) Matt Schnell vs. Jordan Espinosa Women's flyweight (125 lb or 57 kg) Mara Romero Borella vs. Lauren Murphy
