On Sunday, November 15th, 1992, the 1992 NASCAR Cup Series season concluded with Alan Kulwicki defeating Bill Elliott by 10 points to win the 44th championship in Cup Series history. It was the first (and only) Cup Series championship for Kulwicki. These are the top five points finishers for the season.

The 1992 Daytona 500 was won by Davey Allison, who also led the most laps with 127.

5. #42 Kyle Petty (-133 points)

Petty earned fifth in points with two wins, nine top-fives and 17 top-10s, scoring an average finish of 11.2. Petty also led the most laps in four races.

4. #33 Harry Gant (-123)

Gant claimed fourth in points with two victories, 10 top-fives and 15 top-10s for an average finish of 11.3. Gant also led the most laps in one race.

3. #28 Davey Allison (-63)

Allison got the third spot as he had five wins, 15 top-fives and 17 top-10s for an average finish of 11.5, while leading the most laps in six races.

2. #11 Bill Elliott (-10)

Elliott took the runner-up spot with five victories, 14 top-fives and 17 top-10s, getting an average finish of 10.9. Elliott led the most laps in five races.

1. #7 Alan Kulwicki

Kulwicki grabbed the championship as he had two wins, 11 top-fives and 17 top-10s for an average finish of 10.6, leading the most laps in five races.
