When two of the top teams in an NBA conference are to meet and play against each other, we can be sure we are in for an exciting match of basketball, which will be played at the top level. This is exactly what will happen tonight when we will see Oklahoma City Thunder travel to Denver where they will meet with nuggets at the famous Pepsi Center.
Denver Nuggets are just phenomenal this season. About a month ago I was talking about how they will not be able to stay among the top 3 teams in the West for long... Now, look at where they are and how wrong was I. They have exceeded all my expectations and I do believe they can achieve something this season. Nuggets are currently 2nd in the West with an overall record of 41-18 and a 4-1 in the last 5 games. At the start of February, Denver Nuggets fell into a 3 game losing streak, when they lost to Pistons (129:103), Nets (135:130) and 76ers (117:110), however, since then, Denver bounced back and won the next 4 matches.
The home side is coming into this match after what seemed like an easy match against Clippers, who they defeated 123:96. Where Denver excells is their rebounding, which was seen in the last match against Clippers, where they grabbed 56 rebounds, 12 of which in the offensive end. It's not a secret that their superb rebounding plays a huge part in their great performances and a big problem for teams that need to face them.
The visiting team tonight, Oklahoma City Thunder are just barely behind Denver Nuggets in the standings. As it stands now, Oklahoma are holding an overall 28-21 record and a 3-2 record in the last 5 games. Thunder have started the 2nd half of the season with a bang when they faced against Jazz whom they managed to defeat after 3 overtimes with a final score of 148:147. Only a day later, Thunder were to face off against Sacramento Kings at the home stadium, however, the fatigue after a long and tough match against Jazz could be felt and Thunder fell to Kings in a 119:116 game.
Much like Denver Nuggets, Thunder are also an exceptional team when it comes to rebounding, which alongside their defence proven to be the key to their success this season.
Denver Nuggets will come into this match without Trey Lyles and Michael Porter, while Oklahoma will only miss Andre Robertson.
Thunder have been praised for their defence and rebounding, but the real test will come tonight, as they face off against Denver Nuggets, who are THE best rebounding team in the league. This might be worrying for Thunder solely due to their poor rebounding in the last game against Kings, and while fatigue might have played a part in their subpar performance on Sunday, playing at an elevation at Pepsi Center won't be any easier. Another thing that I am a bit concerned is Thunder shooting %, which was at only 38.1% against Kings, which will not be nearly enough to put up a good fight tonight. On the other side, a day off for Thunder might have helped them to regain some energy, but all thing considered I expect them to struggle tonight. On the other side, Nuggets are 4-1 in the last 5, but historically they never had an easy job against Thunder, who are known to cause problems to Denver.
This time we will provide 2 predictions for our readers. As mentioned the teams are both known for their great defences and I do believe they will show us why they are among the best in that area tonight. Another thing that I do believe this match won't see a lot of points is the struggles of Denver against Thunder and as mentioned poor shooting performances from Oklahoma City in their recent match. For tose reason alone I do believe the Over/Under line is set too high and we will be betting on Under 235.5.
On the other side, I have mentioned poor performances of Thunder recently, and if we add the home court advantage Denver will enjoy, I like the odds offered on Denver Nuggets to win this one and extend their winning streak to 5.
Prediction: Under 235.50 points
Prediction: Denver Nuggets -3.50 points
