The best thing about basketball is that you enjoy it even without any refined knowledge about the game. The simplicity of the game is so captivating that you hardly have time to think about what you’re actually doing on the court. This simplicity is augmented by one move that can bolster you’re game with ease.

The technique is the turn and pivot. Once you are in the triple threat position, you must know how to pivot and turn. It's perhaps as important as anything else in the game of basketball. The sooner you master this skill; the better your game becomes. There are two ways to pivot: to the inside and to the outside of the basket. The inside pivot move means turning towards the basket or toward your opponent. The outside pivot move is turning away from the basket or your opponent. Make sure to maintain your balance while pivoting, it’s very important to stay on the balls of your feet and the heels to maintain proper balance and propulsive ability.

Furthermore, learn not to lean with your head is equally as important. This will throw our body off balance, change your center of gravity, and make the turn and pivot readable to the defender. For example, if you have the ball and want to get around your opponent, you have to take a short step in one direction and then explode in the opposite direction. There is great enjoyment in blowing by the defender but DO NOT FORGET to plant your foot firmly, and then push off in the other direction. If you do not plant and with force you diminish the “fake” and won’t have enough counterforce to make a speedy first step. This fake out move will trick the defender into believing that you are going in the direction of your initial plant step, and in attempting to move in that direction, he will be caught off balance. You must be quick to gain the advantage so that by the time the defender recovers, you are a step or two past him.

Always remember to use the triple threat position; get in to it, have a good jump stop, maintain balance and pivot on the balls of your feet.
