What's up basketball fans! I am here again @dwin0603 to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery, Yes! the crazy unexpected results of this year's draft lottery! Let's begin!
The long wait is over and now the 2019 NBA Draft lottery was done and the result was mindblowing. We all waited for this night to know where Duke's Zion Williamson will end up. He's undoubtfully projected to be the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. He's the most talented and the most complete player in the draft and he's physically the most dominant player since LeBron James. So, the hype is all over the world and everybody is waiting for the result and here it is, the New Orleans Pelicans shocked the world as they got the first overall pick in the lottery.
Knicks fans all over the world are disappointed. They expect it to be them but damn, the lottery was full of surprises. Even some projected higher goes down and those who are projected at the bottom goes up. Knicks fans are hoping to get the first overall pick to get back into contention and be a top team in the East again and drafting Zion Williamson will be a good start. It also can attract top free agents to sign and go to New York to form a super team. But, unluckily, the Knicks falls to number 3 in the draft and the Pelicans got the top price. There's even a rumor that if the Knicks got the top pick, they will try to trade it for Anthony Davis but unfortunately, the Pelicans got the first pick.
Let's take a look at the full results:
Look at this board, the Knicks fell to the 3rd pick and the Suns to the 6th. Then, Cleveland to 5th. Those three teams have the highest percentage to get the top pick in the draft. They have a 14 percent chance in getting the top pick but look at how they fall. It's unbelievable that any of them did not get the top pick while the Pelicans who are projected to get the 7th pick with only 6 percent for the top pick surprisingly won the lottery.
Another unexpected and surprising thing was the Lakers getting the 4th pick. Wow! That's a big win for the Lakers who were at the 11th spot climbing all the way to the 4th. Another one who wins big is the Memphis Grizzlies who won the 2nd pick instead of the 8th spot. Memphis can draft Ja Morrant who is the best guard in the draft class and projected to be an elite guard in the NBA. Of course, that's the best that they can get because the Pelicans will surely draft Zion Williamson. The Lakers, on the other hand, can select either RJ Barrett or Cam Reddish who can be a great addition for them or they can add the 4th pick in a trade package for a superstar. Maybe they can add it to Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball in exchange for AD but I don't think that's a good idea. I think they should just keep it and draft a young star and then sign a max player in free agency. I think that's the best move for them right now despite the rumors that AD still wants out despite the Pelicans getting the first pick.
What a great night for the whole basketball world. This was even bigger than Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals. Lol. And poor Suns, Bulls, and Cleveland who drops outside the top 4. If the Pelicans were able to keep AD then retain Julius Randle, this will be a scary team with Jrue Holiday manning the point. The Pelicans will bring some noise in the Western Conference for sure if Zion lives up to the expectations and I believe in him. I think he got it in him, to become one of the best players to ever play the game when his career ends. That's a huge statement but I believe in his potential.
