What's up basketball fans! I am here again @dwin0603 to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about Jimmy Butler and the rumors that the Lakers tried to get him from the Timberwolves back in 2018. Let's start!

Before the Lakers landed LeBron James last summer, they made a lot of moves and offers that didn't get through and one of those moves is offering a trade to the Timberwolves in exchange for Jimmy Butler. The Lakers really tried big moves every time they had the chance and of course, they are going at the top tier players in the league and Jimmy Butler is one of them. The Wolves and the Lakers couldn't make a deal that will make both sides happy so Butler ended up being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Robert Covington, Jerryd Bayless, and Dario Saric.

If only that trade went through, maybe the Lakers secure a playoff spot and their season wouldn't be a mess. LeBron still is dominating and showing MVP stats but he can't bring his team up to the top 8 alone. He needs a second star to help him and Butler could've been that guy. Just imagine how good the Lakers can be with this starting lineup; Lonzo Ball, Jimmy Butler, Kyle Kuzma, LeBron James, and JaVale McGee. That would be a solid starting five and there are also Rajon Rondo, Josh Hart, KCP and Brandon Ingram off the bench. I think adding Butler would've been a guaranteed playoff spot.

Just look at how good the Sixers are right now. Butler playing alongside 3 stars (Embiid, Simmons, and Harris) is not a reason for him to have a low scoring production. Butler is still averaging almost 19 points again even if there are other scorers on the team. He is doing his job beautifully and as a result, it's making the Sixers better. Now, the Sixers are on the way for a possible Finals run and Butler is likely to re-sign with the Sixers in the summer. Still, the Lakers have the chance to acquire him even if it's very little, they should still try and go for him. Try to offer him a contract and see if it works.

That is all for today folks! I would love to hear your thoughts about this article so drop your comments now and let's have some basketball talk! :)
