On July 6, 2019, Howard was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies for forward C. J. Miles.

With the recent news of Demarcus Cousins going down again even before the season starts, the Lakers are almost out of option to replace him at that number 5 position. Javale Mcgee is the only remaining legit center which is proven to play quality minutes along with Lebron last season but the Lakers are in dire need to add another player that could fill the role that Boogie Cousins left.

The 2012-13 Lakers had a lot of hype with Howard, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and others on the roster, but the squad struggled to meet expectations and was swept in the first round of the playoffs

Dwight Howard is the latest rumors circling around that could also help him revive his legacy as a Lakers, NBA fans this days might have already forgotten how dominant Dwight at both ends of the floor and when healthy can legitimately ousts Javale easily at the starting center position. Howard when last suited up as a purple and gold jersey logged 17 points and 12 boards a game, we might not see that type of performance anymore as he is now not his former self anymore.

But when he played last season for only 9 games with the Wizards he still put up pretty impressive numbers at age 33 with 12.8 points and 9.2 boards per game not to mention at only 25.6 minutes. Although there are health concerns looks like Dwight is at full health right now and could share some minutes with Javale at center position which could help tank the Lakers defense as it is what the team needed because Lebron and AD prolly will take care a lot of the team's offense.

It is hard to replace Boogie's all around game at center position because only few could do at that size but at the very least Howard can help the team in rebounds and defending the paint as a rim protector because NBA offense is now played through driving lanes and knock down three point shooters because it is a luxury to have a reliable defender inside the paint so the team's defense can be more comfortable than before.
