What's up Scorum nation, here we are again on NBA EXPRESS and this would be our second article for today. The Nba super teams are now gone and we are all back to duos again just like the old days when Magic and Cap, MJ and Pippen or the most enigmatic duo in Shaq and Kobe won their multiple rings. Now we are witnessing how Kawhi's decision change the landscape of basketball after his decision to pair with Paul George and breaking the Laker's plan to form again a super team which pretty much boring.
But today we're not goin' to talk about the guys we just mentioned above, what we need to dig down is how to dominant ball hogs can work just fine and eventually translate to wins. Yeah you guys hit the mark obviously there's this two guys who are walking triple doubles and without a doubt its James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
The first year in which Westbrook and Harden teamed up was 2009-10, which was Harden’s rookie season. While Harden averaged just 9.9 and 12.2 points per game in his first two seasons and logging 22.9 and 26.7 minutes, Westbrook posted marks of 16.1 points/8.0 assists and 21.9 points/8.2 assists over that stretch.
But both players improved their scoring marks in the final season together, even with Kevin Durant averaging 28.0 points per game in 2011-12. Westbrook (23.6 points per) and Harden (16.8) had career years from a scoring standpoint (to that point), and it quickly became apparent what type of upside both players had.
We all knew that they previously played together at OKC along with Kevin Durant, which if only the owner didn't only think of his own pocket they could have the greatest team assembled of all time forget about just in the NBA but in the history of sports as well as those won their regular season mvps, but that's for another topic maybe.
Obviously these are two super talented guys and made history, for me on how they're gonna coexist at the same time on the court depends on how Mike D'antoni adjust his gameplan. If I would be playing the role of the coach over the Houston Rockets harden could play off ball for some possessions while Westbrook is playing the point. Harden doesn't need the ball that much if we put into consideration how well he can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor especially his range on knocking down the long ball.
I've been following James Harden since his time in the Oklahoma and I am always arguing it with my friend that it would be better to keep Harden instead of Serge Ibaka. Anyway for this duo to workout and contend with championship calliber teams specifically in the loaded western conference is to respect each other's space and sacrifice some of their ego just like how D Wade or Bosh did in Miami.
