Phoenix Suns started the 2018 NBA draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn by tapping Deandre Ayton as No. 1 pick overall Thursday evening.

The proceedings have not been warmed yet, the Dallas Mavericks immediately trade to get the rights to Slovenia's Luka Doncic.

Atlanta Hawks handed the rights to No. 3 pick Doncic for Trae Young No. 5 selection from Oklahoma. Mavs included in the deal  the future first-round pick to get Doncic which just arrived on Wednesday because was still in charge of Real Madrid team in Spain with the championship.

The Mavs look for another player who is replacing Dirk Nowitzki's place, expected to play in its final season in the NBA.

"I've been talking to Dallas a lot. They really wanted me, and they were very, very nice, "said Doncic, 19.

Young is one of the most successful college basketball players in the past season, the first player to be the leader in scoring and assists in one season.

Big men dominate the first part of the draft, beginning with two former high school teammates.

The Suns spent the first No. 1 pick in the franchise history for Ayton, a 7-foot-1 center from Arizona that averages 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds in his one-season play. He has 24 double-doubles in 35 games.
