So as I sip my morning coffee and catch up on the latest buzz, I skimmed across the newest Boston rumor in the mill. That’s right, the topic of bringing Anthony Davis to Boston is starting to seep out. Are we going to see a blockbuster trade any time soon? I’d guess not, but there is still 3 months before the season, and we know Danny Ainge has had eyes for Davis for a while now.
Here’s the thing, the Celtics have probably the most assets in the league right now, in terms of picks. The C’s are currently in possession of 3 first round picks (Kings, Grizzlies, Clippers). That is huge bargaining power, and a place you want to be as a team. However, we also know that Anthony Davis is top talent that will require top trade assets and more. I guess the question is how much more? Word on the street is he could cost the Celtics all 3 first round picks PLUS Jaylen Brown/Marcus Smart?! For me, the price is too high.
I would not mind seeing Davis in Green, possibly taking Boston to an even higher echelon, but come on. We already have such a dynamic team, and with a healthy squad, unstoppable comes to mind. We all know Hayward and Irving will be healthy, that alone is enough to scare most teams. Tatum is only improving by the second and will be a sight this season. Brown and Smart as well. I just don’t see such a costly need, but I am not Danny Ainge, and he has made some interesting moves over the years that have paid off huge. Just look at Brad Stevens. I mean, who saw Brad coming? I’m sure plenty of people were chuckling when Danny gave him the whistle.
Regardless of the rumors, and the moves that will be made, the drama and potential moves keep it interesting and are getting me so pumped for the season. Blockbuster trades can set a new stage or tear it apart, and I for one, like what Boston has at this exact moment. The chemistry, comradery, the heart. Let’s roll with that as we shred through the east and gun for the west.
