DeMarcus Cousins has agreed to a 1 year $5.3 million deal to play for the Golden State Warriors next season.  Cousins was one of the top free agents available this offseason and many teams would have paid much much more for his services.  The move smacks of ring chasing as he joins by far the best team in the league.

Cousins is coming off an ACL injury that forced him to miss the 2nd half of the season for the New Orleans Pelicans.  The Pelicans actually started playing better after he was out. They made up ground and eventually ended up in the 6th seed in the West and upset the 3rd seed TrailBlazers in the first round.   This will likely be a 1 and done deal as he will undoubtedly look for a big payday after this upcoming season.

Obviously there is little to no risk for the Warriors who already have an absolutely stacked team.  With Cousins they sign one of the leagues premier centers and dramatically improve their weakest position on the floor.  Their crunch time lineup will now include 5 all stars from last year with Curry, Thompson, Durant, Green, and Cousins.  The only possible saving grace for the competition is the hope that Cousins messes up the Warriors team chemistry.  From a talent standpoint though, there's no denying they are better today than they were just last month when they won their 3rd championship in 4 years.

Overall I would say this move is very bad for the league in general.  The Warriors were already head and shoulders above the competition and now they are that much better.  It would take a near miracle for another team to have any shot at beating them in a 7 game playoff series.  The NBA needs to figure out a way to combat this trend of star players all playing on the same team.  It may not be an easy answer but league parity in the NBA should be a goal.  There will always be players who are better than others but it becomes a problem when all the best players team up and crush every other team in the league.  If the Warriors can stay healthy and put out their all star team night in and night out they may coast to yet another record breaking season in 2018-2019.
