The Toronto Raptors have pulled the trigger on a trade that lands them Kawhi Leonard for a deal that includes Demar DeRozan. This move ends what turned into a tumultuous situation between the Spurs and Leonard. The Raptors also landed Danny Green in the deal and sent Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick to the Spurs.

The Raptors will try and become the latest team to trade for a big star and lure them into staying, joining the OKC Thunder. Last off-season the Thunder traded for Paul George who was clear on his intent to sign with the Lakers in his upcoming free agency, however he decided to stay put in Oklahoma City. Like George, Leonard has been clear he intends to sign with the Lakers in free agency next summer. The Raptors will be able to offer Kawhi a 5 year $190 million dollar deal at the end of next season while any other team could only max out at 4 years $141 million dollar deal.

This was a pretty good trade for both teams. The Spurs unload their disgruntled star and they get a star player back in return. The Raptors also picked up Danny Green who is a nice piece to add to their team. He brings with him championship experience and he can be a solid role player.
