NBA Talk #147: The Reason Why the Los Angeles Lakers Didn’t Include Kyle Kuzma in the Anthony Davis Deal
Image Source What's up basketball fans! I am here again @dwin0603 to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about the reason why the Lakers didn't include Kyle Kuzma in the Anthony Davis deal. Let's start! Many people believed that the New Orleans Pelicans won the Anthony Davis trade. They believe that giving up Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball, and the 4th Overall pick was too much for Davis. Yes, Anthony Davis is a superstar. A top 5 player and arguably the best power forward in the league today. But, he is injury prone. He couldn’t even finish a full season since he was drafted. And he’s on the last year on his current deal which can make him a free agent next summer unless he and the Lakers agree to a contract extension. There is no guarantee that he will sign a long term deal with the Lakers even if he already said it verbally. Look at Kyrie Irving. He committed to stay in Boston earlier last season but where he is now? Packing his things to move to New York and might likely join the Brooklyn Nets. That was what everybody was thinking. But, for the Lakers, they believe that the trade will be worth it. That it will pay a big price and great results. And the best thing that they’ve done is, they were able to keep young stud, Kyle Kuzma. Kuzma has lots of potential as a scoring threat. They believe that he’s well fitted with LeBron James than Brandon Ingram. But, with Anthony Davis arrival, how can they make this work? Why did the Lakers keep insisting on keeping Kyle Kuzma? Of all the young talents that they gave up for AD, why keep Kuzma? Source According to ESPN, the reason behind keeping Kuzma is because of Kobe Bryant. Kobe really likes Kyle Kuzma. Out of the Lakers young guys, Kobe saw more of a mamba mentality in Kyle Kuzma. And Kobe who is very close to Rob Pelinka might have influenced him to keep Kuzma. As an all-time Lakers great, and probably the best Laker ever in the history of the NBA, looks like Kobe still plays a major role in the organization. Especially in the decision making despite not being part of the front office. Kobe can still influence every decision making that the Lakers are doing. Rob Pelinka still respects what Kobe has to say and always listening to his opinions. Let’s see if the Lakers made the right choice. That is all for today folks!
