Hey y'all! As some of you have noticed, I've dropped off of the Scorum grid for about a week. I was out of town visiting my brother in college at the University of Southern Mississippi. During my visit I went to a football game between Southern Miss and Rice, here is my documentation.
This was only my second college football game I've ever been to, I went to a Florida Gator football game last November but that is the extent of my college football experience. I know just enough about football to have an idea of what's going on but really it was all kind of new to me. I'm a NASCAR girl, not a football girl.
I'm the type of person that when I try something new I go all in. With that being said, I went out and bought a Southern Miss shirt and hat to show some school spirit. I also studied up on some Southern Miss lingo. For example every time they get a first down the announcer says, "First down Southern Miss," and the crowd yells out "To the top!" I had school spirit and I was ready to bleed black and gold!
I really enjoyed the game. We had seats right on the 50 yard line so I was able to see everything that was going on. Southern Miss played really well and kept it entertaining for a first-time fan like me. Their offense was pretty strong and their defense kept it at a two-score game for most of the time. I never felt anxious or worried that we weren't going to win, but it wasn't a complete blowout either. The final score was 40-22. However, I did get a little bit nervous before the game that we might lose. While I was waiting for the eagle walk to start I saw a dead bird on the ground. Seeing as how the mascot for Southern Miss is a golden eagle I thought it might be a bad omen.
While I was sitting in the stand I had a lot of random thoughts, so here's the best "Random as Belle thoughts"
"Football pants sure are easy on the eyes. Guys should wear them all the time"
"Hmm, I wonder how many race cars could fit on the football field? It's got to be at least 200. I should Google it." I couldn't find any answers.
"I thought there were only eight officials. Turns out there about fifty sitting in the stands out of uniform. Oh wait, those are just the fans who think that they know everything and the refs don't."
"It smells really bad out here, especially when our team makes a touchdown or field goal. I think everybody forgot to wear deodorant"
"Wow its really cool that every time Southern Miss makes a touchdown the military guys do seven push-ups. When I watch football on tv (which is rare) I should squats for every point scored."
"Woah is that a female referee? That's pretty cool!"
The football game was pretty cool and entertaining but my favorite part was the marching band. I just really like loud noises so it was great for me!
I really enjoyed watching the majorettes dance and twirl their batons. I want to be a majorette so bad but I cant twirl a baton. Instead I have decided that when I go to college I want to be a "Dixie Darling". Those are the girls who wear tall boots and dance and do high kicks. Can't y'all see me doing that? All I need to do is get into better shape and learn how to dance. It won't be easy but it's something that I've always wanted to do!
That was my experience at the Southern Miss football game. Make sure to comment and tell me what you think!
XOXO @hellsbelle 🖤
