I graduated high school in 1990.  I went to a small d3 college up in Pennsylvania (which is inconsequential to this blog) but I dated a girl who went to Virginia Tech.  I visited her a couple times and was surprised at what a dump the place was and how run down it looked. The time frame was 1991.

Fast forward to 1995.  The Virginia Tech Hokies were riding the waves of arguably the best football season in school history.  They wound up winning the Big East Title and received a bid to play in the prestigious "Sugar Bowl" against The University of Texas Longhorns.  The Hokie's would go on to route the Longhorns 28-10 which turned out to be their first major bowl victory.

Once again, fast forward in time to 2001.  I am now a wrestling coach bringing my kids to the Virginia Tech Summer wrestling camp.  As I entered campus I was amazed at the fact that I didn't recognize ANYTHING.  The place was gorgeous and brand new looking.  When I was checking the kids into camp, I started talking around with people who worked there.  I had found out that the entire Virginia Tech Campus had a major overhaul payed for by the Bowl money they received for winning the 1995 Sugar Bowl.

Virginia Tech had also decided to invest a ton of money into hiring winning coaches for all sports. As all the different sports programs got better and better, the field houses and field became more and more pristine.

Virginia Tech 2018 is one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States now.  All made possible because a football team won a certain game at a certain time.
