2019-20 NCAA FOOTBALL ALL-AMERICAN TEAM - OFFENSE
Welcome back all! Earlier in the week I unveiled my picks for the @sportsguychris NCAA Football All-American Defensive Team and today I'm back to give you my All-American picks for the Offensive side. It was quite the task, as there were several top-notch performers spread throughout all of college football this year. Just as for the Defensive side, I've scoured the country high & low and put together the most comprehensive list of All-Americans out there. - There is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team, as well "Honorable Mention" selections. The 1st-3rd teams follow the traditional allotment of 1-QB, 2-HB, 2-WR, 1-TE, and 5-OL (one of which being a center). In all, 63 players made the list for the offensive side, with all 10 FBS Conferences represented. (6) QBs, (5) HBs, (8) WRs, (5) TEs, and (6) OL weren't able to crack the 1st-3rd teams, but got very deserving nods on the "Honorable Mention" list. Unsurprisingly, the nation's top offense in LSU led the way with 5 players represented. SEC rival Alabama also has 5 players on the list, but none managed to crack the 1st Team. LSU & Wisconsin are the only two programs to land 2 players on the 1st Team offense. - - The Tigers' prolific QB & Heisman-winner Joe Burrow, was an easy & obvious choice for 1st Team QB, and Biletnikoff Award-winner Ja'Marr Chase was also an obvious pick for the 1st Team O after his standout season. Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor became only the second player in NCAA football history to record back-to-back 2,000 yard seasons and was also an easy pick for the 1st Team at HB. Teammate Tyler Biadasz took home the Rimington Award for the nation's top center, helping to land him on the 1st Team as well. - Highlighting the rest of the 1st Team Offense is Ohio State HB J.K. Dobbins, who also finished with a tad over 2,000 yards on the ground. WR James Proche of SMU led the country with 111 receptions, which helped to land him on the 1st Team. You might not of heard of Florida Atlantic's Harrison Bryant, but the senior was the only TE in the nation to top 1,000 yards receiving on the season, making him another easy choice for the 1st Team. - Up front, in addition to Biadasz, Outland Trophy winner Penei Sewell of Oregon, and Outland Award semifinalist & 2-time All-SEC performer Andrew Thomas of Georgia spotlights an outstanding group of lineman. - - Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts is the 2nd Team QB after turning in one of the best all-around seasons in college football history. 32 TD passes, 20 rushing TDs, over 3,000 yards through the air, and well-over 1,200 more on the ground & it was easy to see why Hurts was a Heisman Trophy Finalist & 2nd Team pick. Along with Hurts, the nation's leading rusher in RB Chuba Hubbard of Oklahoma State (2,094 yards), and ACC all-time career leader in rushing touchdowns & total touchdowns, Travis Etienne, highlight a pair of phenomenal 2nd Team HBs. - LSU's Justin Jefferson, and Alabama's Jerry Jeudy beat out a bevy of talented & deserving choices for the 2nd Team WR spots. The 2nd Team O-line features a pair of Michigan Wolverines, in 2-time All-Big TEN pick John Runyun, and All-Big TEN guard Ben Bredeson. They are joined by another Big TEN standout in TE Brycen Hopkins of Purdue, who managed 830 yards receiving and 7 scores. - Just as was the case with the Defensive side, there is not much of a dropoff from the 2nd Team to 3rd Team Offense. OSU sophomore QB Justin Fields highlights the 3rd team O. He was roughed up a bit in the National Semifinal loss to Clemson, throwing 2 picks, but managed to only throw 1 all season long in the 13 games leading up to that point, including the Big TEN Title game. - - Joining Fields on the 3rd team, are dynamic WR CeeDee Lamb of Oklahoma, who made it a regular occurrence to run circles around opposing DBs all season long, and the nation's leader in receiving yards in Omar Bayless of Arkansas State (1,653). LSU center Lloyd Cushenberry, and USC's Austin Jackson (2-time All-Pac 12) lead the 3rd team O-line selections. Cushenberry is the linchpin up front for the vaunted LSU attack, and Jackson rated out as one of the country's 10 best O-lineman. - Not everyone could make the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team of course. It is especially difficult for the skills position players, with just 1 QB, 2 RBs, and 2 WRs spots per team. There were plenty of deserving players out there, and for those who couldn't quite crack the 1st-3rd teams, they still received some much-deserved recognition by getting an "Honorable Mention" nod. - Clemson star QB Trevor Lawrence (who, going into Monday night's National Title game has yet to lose a collegiate game - let that sink in for a moment), Washington State's prolific QB Anthony Gordon (the nation's leader in yards passing with over 5,500), Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa, and Navy QB Malcolm Perry (who finished 2nd in the entire country in rushing) highlights the "Honorable Mention" group of quarterbacks. - - A pair Minnesota Golden Gophers spotlights an uber-talented group of wideouts. Tyler Johnson & Rashod Bateman were both 1st Team All-Big TEN picks and helped P.J. Fleck's crew to a breakout 11-2 campaign. Joining the Golden Gopher teammates is Kentucky WR Lynn Bowden Jr., who had one heck of a season. Bowden Jr. is listed as a "Flex" position due to the fact that he was the Wildcats' leading receiver through the first 4 games of the season, but injuries to both the 1st & 2nd string QBs caused him to take over at quarterback for the remainder of the season. Over 1,400 rushing yards, and 13 TDs later, and he certainly deserves recognition for the incredible all-around season he put in. He also finished the season with over 400 passing yards & 300+ yards receiving - Rounding out the All-American Team selections are Temple's Rimington Award Finalist Matt Hennessy at center, and senior All-Big XII 1st Team & conference co-offensive lineman of the year, Julian Good-Jones of Iowa State. - It is quite the list, but we made it through! In total, 111 players made my 2019-20 All-American Team between the Offense & Defense. The Big TEN landed 7 players between the 1st & 2nd team offense, while the SEC was right behind with 6. As always, I appreciate the support, and would love to get your thoughts in the comments section - did I happen to miss anybody (doubtful - lol)?
