In a move that should have been made last spring, the San Francisco 49'ers just released LB Reuban Foster and we can only hope that no NFL team will ever give this bum a chance to play in the league again.
Last night, this clown was arrested yet again on charges of domestic violence. In an apparent altercation with a woman at his hotel in Florida, the police needed to be called in and he was taken into custody. The details of the altercation are not yet available but in my opinion, who really cares. The fact that this guy is being arrested on domestic violence charges for the second time in a year is all that needs to be known when it comes to him. He was arrested and charged with felony domestic violence and multiple weapons violations back in April stemming from an altercation with his girlfriend. In that incident, his actions led to his girlfriend's eardrum being ruptured. He got off with a slap on the wrist from the NFL. A two-game suspension was clearly not a strong enough message for Foster.
My hat is off to the 49'ers organization who didn't even wait to get the complete details of last night incident. Their swift action is the clear message that needs to be sent to these players who fail to understand that violence against women is NOT acceptable. The sad part is that these things seem to be happening all the time in sports. The NFL gets a bad rap because there have been several very public cases over the years but the issue has been getting worse in recent years. In a recent post, I was discussing how we look to these players as if they are heroes and this is just another clear as day reason why we shouldn't.
I really can't figure out what these two guys have to be so happy about. They should both be embarrassed about the things that they have done. Fitting that they would be in this picture. Just this week, Adrian Peterson admitted in an interview that he still disciplines his children using a belt. Ummmm, dude? Do you not remember being arrested for beating your kids back in September of 2014? You might not want to tell people that you still do it. Or better yet, STOP BEATING YOUR KIDS!!!!! At this point, the NFL has yet to comment on Peterson's admission. Shocking. This is yet another black eye for an NFL that is consistently dealing with these problems.
Is this the image that is becoming the face of the NFL? In the eyes of many observers, it is. I personally feel like the NFL needs to be harsher on first-time offenders when it comes to these actions. There needs to be a strong message handed down to these players and to the entire league that any form of violence will not be tolerated. A two-game suspension is nothing in my opinion. A full season missed? Now, that would be a statement that sends a huge message about the NFL's stance on domestic violence. I sincerely hope that it is a very long time before Reuban Foster is given an opportunity to play football in the NFL again. I don't care that he was a 1st round draft pick and that he is an excellent player. He has bigger issues in his life to deal with than football and he needs to be sent packing. Sheesh, if the league can continue to keep Colin Kaepernick out of football for taking a knee, I'm sure they can pull up their socks and keep a woman beater out of the league too.
