Quite possibly the worst/most hilarious play in NFL history, The Butt Fumble. Mark Sanchez did not have a distinguished career in the NFL, and that career has been punctuated by one bizarre play. I honestly don't remember any Mark Sanchez moments outside of this play.
Already you know the play is going to be amazing just from the title. Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez, starts the play by lining up behind center in what appears to be a setup for a simple running play. The ball is snapped, Sanchez drops back, fakes a hand off before turning around to run the ball himself. Normally the general rule of thumb on a running play is you run the ball into a hole created by your offensive line. Sanchez decided he did not need to follow this basic rule and tucks the ball into his arms and runs directly into this offenisive lineman. The collision the lineman knocks Sanchez flat on his back, the ball fumbles out only to be scooped up by a Patriot defender and ran in for a touchdown.
Not exactly the type of play you want in your highlight reel. Rewatching the play now does not retract from it's absurdity. The lineman was pushed back a little bit but it almost appears like Sanchez makes no effort whatsoever to avoid his teammate.
The Butt Fumble will be infamous for many years to come and will be a moment that haunts Mark Sanchez for the rest of his life.
