Meetings between Chicago Bears and New England Patriots are a bit scarce but they are at loggerheads on Sunday at Soldier Field. The Bears now 3-2, virtually handed last week’s game. a game that was theirs to win - to the dolphins. Quarterback Trubisky missed open receivers and with three minutes left on the clock, the defence gave up a 75-yard scoring play and missed a field goal to win in overtime. Opportunities The Bears should not have passed up. Not everything went against The Bears, they racked up 467 yards with 167 on the ground. Trubisky had three touchdowns and connected 22 of 31 passes for 316 yards but the loss remains a huge setback for a team supposedly gathering momentum.

The defence was the achilles heel, giving up many big plays and getting forced for three scores and 380 yards from reserve quarterback Brock Osweiler. Brock had to come in at the last minute for Ryan Tannehill who couldn’t answer the bell.

In the lead up to the game between New England Patriots and Kansas City in their previous game, the media hyped up the game to be a video game between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, the quarterbacks for both sides. The game did live up to expectation with the patriots winning 43-40.

Sony Michel rushed for 106 yards and two scores and Brady hit on 24 of 35 passed for 340 yards with a touchdown. Just about when time was to expire, a 28-yard field goal won it for The Patriots after gaining 500 offensive yards with 173 rushing.

That win extended Patriots recent impressive performances having scored 48,48, and 43 points in the past three games. The victory means The Patriots are now 4-2. They are a team that can produce a string of victories when on form.

Team News

The Bears are a taking a cautious approach to the ankle injury that has made Linebacker Khalil Mack miss practice for Sunday’s game. The injury has hampered Mack’s recent progress with The Bears. He only played 79% of Chicago’s snaps against Miami Dolphins and for the first time in his Bears career, finished without a sack. Some Bears players are also limited with injury. Anthony miller is still sidelined with one. Cornerback Prince Amukamara re-injured his hamstring during the loss to the Dolphins. Offensive lineman Eric Kush has a neck ailment while Marcus Cooper has a hamstring issue. Wide receiver Allen Robinson II is battling a groin injury. He had a limited participation in Wednesday’s workout but missed Thursday’s practice at Halas Hall.

The Patriots will likely miss offensive tackle Marcus Cannon who suffered a head injury against Kansas City. He has missed practices so far this week. He was replaced by LaAdrian Waffle for what was left in that game and same may happen for Sunday’s game.

Chicago Bears start to the season was quite good but their OT loss to the Dolphins has put them in a subdued position at 3-2. A 4-1 would have allowed them to face The Patriots with belief, knowing that a loss would not have been too costly. The Bears need to drop the tag of a team that cannot finish games. Beating an elite team in The Patriots may go a long way to wiping out that smear.
