Charles Sims was placed on IR Thursday with a knee injury, ending his 2018 season before it began.

It happened in the second preseason game vs the Titans on the opening kickoff. He got rolled up on and was down on the field before being assisted off.

So what does this mean for the Buccaneers running back depth? Well it became pretty crowded after drafting Ronald Jones II in this year's draft.

Right now, the Bucs have Peyton Barber, Jones, Jacquizz Rodgers, Shaun Wilson, and  Dare Ogunbowale. Barber is slated to be the starter with Jones coming in. Rodgers covers all three downs and it seems Wilson may have locked in the kick returner spot after the game against the Lions.

Sims had signed a one year deal this past off season, so we may have seen the last time he'll suit up for the Bucs.

After having a great year in 2015, mainly for his pass catching ability (1,090 all purpose yards), Sims had a similar knee injury in 2016 and followed up with a mediocre 2017 season (340 total yards).

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching Sims play. He was quick, shifty, and had great pass catching abilities. But with this backfield depth, the Bucs have to choose between Rodgers and Sims, as they will both become unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.
