Well, after some time away due to lack of motivation, I'm back to write some more because the NFL season is almost complete.
With that said, let us revisit my predictions for the NFC and see just how bad I did.
NFC East
The NFC East was somewhat of a surprise. Cowboys won the division and Eagles snuck their way into the playoffs, opposite of my prediction.
Eagles
Prediction- 13-3 Reality- 9-7
The Eagles got off to a very slow start and once again had to rely of Nick Foles to get them into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth. Their run game was almost non-existent and a tight end led in receiving yards. But, playoffs nonetheless.
Cowboys
Prediction- 8-8 Reality- 10-6
Cowboys were dominant in the second half of the season, going 7-1. Zeke and Dak finally found their rhythm and the defense stepped up huge. If this team can make it to the NFC Championship game, they'll have the confidence and swag to make a realistic push for the Super Bowl.
Redskins
Prediction- 7-9 Reality- 7-9
I did it! One right! AP was able to put together a solid year but the injury to Alex Smith and a suspect defense didn't help too much. But if Smith were to have stayed healthy, this team may have made the playoffs.
Giants
Prediction- 6-10 Reality- 5-11
Saquon Barkley had an outstanding rookie year and may win Rookie of the Year, but a mediocre team around him with Odell injured and Eli being Eli means a down year.
NFC North
Who would have thought the Bears would be so good and the Packers suck? Not me, that's for sure. The only team I figured out was the Lions, sorry @mikey.
Vikings
Prediction- 12-4 Reality- 8-7-1
Kirk Cousins performed pretty well, but the team just couldn't get it done in tight games. Barely missing the playoffs has a bit more sting to it than missing it entirely. They'll be back next year.
Packers
Prediction- 10-6 Reality- 6-9-1
A very down year for the Packers. Rodgers put up great numbers but a poor defense will put you in bad spots that the Packers couldn't get out of unfortunately.
Lions
Prediction- 6-10 Reality- 6-10
Another one! Again, sorry @mikey. Stafford was meh and the team around him was more meh. Patricia has some work to do in upgrading this team from top to bottom.
Bears
Prediction- 6-10 Reality- 12-4
Whelp, I missed that one by a mile... DA BEARS were phenomenal all year and propelled themselves into the playoffs (only to lose). Look for this team to do well next year with Khalil Mack leading that defense.
NFC West
Jimmy G getting hurt really put a damper on the division but the Rams of course excelled.
Rams
Prediction- 13-3 Reality- 13-3
Finally got a good prediction right! Of course the Rams were going to do well, their roster was too good. This team has one of the best shots to win the Super Bowl this year and years to come.
Seahawks
Prediction- 7-9 Reality- 10-6
Missed the mark again. The Seahawks were good all around and each of their losses were a one score game. If this team stays motivated, they can get back the the Seahawks from a couple years ago.
Cardinals
Prediction- 9-7 Reality- 3-13
Whoops. A rookie quarterback coming in couldn't get the job done. Who would've thunk. Apparently not me. We'll see how the Cardinals handle the pressure of picking #1 overall in the draft.
49ers
Prediction- 8-8 Reality- 4-12
Way off, but closer than the Cardinals. As I said, Jimmy G getting hurt didn't help this team and Nick Mullens was a star... for 2 games. Combine with an awful defense and here we are.
NFC South
Every year I say to myself, "this year will be the Bucs year." And every year, it's not. This year was no exception. The Saints marched into the #1 seed and the Panthers lost 7 straight.
Saints
Prediction- 10-6 Reality- 13-3
Drew Brees continues to play at an MVP level and the defense played well all year. Add a pair of prolific running backs and you get a #1 seed.
Panthers
Prediction- 11-5 Reality- 7-9
If they kept playing like they were in the first half of the season, I'd be here gloating again about how right I was. But no, Cam was suspect and the defense couldn't do anything down the stretch. The only bright side was Christian McCaffrey.
Falcons
Prediction- 9-7 Reality- 7-9
So close. A bunch of streaks here and there couldn't help the Falcons even with Matty Ice and Julio putting up bug numbers. But two players can't help out a defense that shows up whenever.
Buccaneers
Prediction- 8-8 Reality- 5-11
A second straight 5-11 season and the 12th straight season in which my hopes and dreams were destroyed. It's my fault, my hopes were set too high. Ryan Fitzmagic played lights out, extremely poor, lights out again, then abysmal.
A carousel at quarterback and a defense that only found its groove when it didn't matter causes a team to lose hope real fast. Oh well, next year is their year for sure.
So as you can see, I was wrong on almost everything, but I got some right. This season saw some wild games and performances from some of the most unpredictable places. I hope you learned just as much as I did from this, that I'm right sometimes.
