My wife finally told me I need to stop ranting about the terrible Bears loss today.

Scorum to the rescue!

As long as I don't hit these keys too loudly, I think I'm safe (although that will be challenge).

A team should never loss a game that involves their defender WWE body slamming an opponent. Slam image from trbimg.

The Bears players made plenty of mistakes. Turning the ball over twice in the Red Zone is usually a recipe for an ugly loss. Add the fact that your biggest offense destroyer, Khalil Mack, was playing half speed due to an injured ankle and you can typically chalk up the game as a loss.

But good teams can overcome those problems... if the coach makes the right decisions. Surprisingly, the Bears are indeed a good team. They should have won today's game.

Unfortunately, their head coach is learning on the job. Thanks to an amazing goal line stand in overtime that resulted in the Dolphins turning the ball over on the goal line, he almost had the opportunity to learn from his mistakes while still winning.

Sadly he had already made a huge mistake in regulation and would another one in OT.

At the end of the 4th quarter with the game tied at 28, my head nearly exploded as I screamed at the TV "Call time out!!!"

With 57 seconds left, the Dolphins had a 4th down on around the Bears 41 yard line. It was too far for a field goal. They could have gone for a first or punted. A timeout there would have put a tremendous amount of pressure on the Dolphins to punt. After all, if they went for it on 4th down and were stuffed, the Bears would have the ball at their own 41 with 57 seconds and 1 timeout. In the NFL, that is an eternity.

The Bears rookie coach, Matt Nagy, waited a full 17 seconds to call that timeout. The Dolphins punted and the Bears took over around their own 10 with around 32 seconds on the clock. Instead of using the plethora of weapons the team had invested in during the off season, Nagy had his QB kneel to end regulation.

OK.

Getting 60 yards in 30 seconds is not that easy... but how about in 50 seconds? That is how much time would have been on the clock if he called the timeout right away.

In overtime after his defense saved him from that mistake in regulation (by forcing a fumble on their goal line), Jordan Howard gashed the Dolphins defense and the Bears ended up at around the 40 yard line of the Dolphins.

The Bears had all of the momentum. So what did they do?

They ran the ball up the middle 3 times in a row in an effort to set up a 53 yard field goal.

53 yards!

That is fine to try if your offense fails to move the ball... but Nagy did not even give them a chance.

The Bears deserved to lose this game.

I hope Nagy learned from this game.

Before the Khalil Mack trade, Nagy had no pressure on him at all. He could make all the rookie mistakes needed to help him learn how to do his job. But having the best player on the field for 13 of your 16 games changes the expectations.

The Bears are good.

They need their coach to rise to the occasion.
