No one can argue that the quarterback is the star of every football game. From charging the team to victory to carrying the weight of a challenging run, quarterbacks represent the flair needed to excel in this highly-competitive sport.

In the 99 years that professional football has been around, we’ve seen quite a number of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Those who were armed with exceptional abilities - power throwers, shifty scramblers, and swift gunslingers - made it to football royalty after years of showcasing their otherworldly skills.

The list is ever-growing, but if I were to name the best quarterbacks in NFL history, these four players are definitely my best bet:

John Elway

Many can put Elway down the all time QB rankings because of his rough start and his label as the “guy who just couldn't win the big one”, but over the years he proved that he’s got the elite skills to be at the top. Elway’s dynamic agility, pinpoint accuracy, and a cannon of a throwing arm made him achieve 300 touchdowns, 50,000+ yards, 9 pro bowls and an MVP award. Nuff said.

Peyton Manning

QBs like Manning are the cream of the crop of the NFL. During his time with the Indianapolis Colts, the team became the most triumphant one for having the longest win streaks (twelve!). Much of the team’s success can be attributed to Manning, who bagged four MVP awards.

His official exit 2 seasons ago was gilded with a sweet victory with the Denver Broncos, ending his career with a legacy that’s gonna be pretty hard to top.

Tom Brady

The New England Patriots has Tom Brady written all over it. Leading what is considered to be the best team in the NFL is sufficient reason for him to be included in this list. I mean, how could you not? He’s the only player who’s got six Super Bowl rings to date, and the oldest QB to win at that. Brady is undeniably one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

The greatest moments in Brady’s career were unleashed in the early 2000s. Winning three Vince Lombardi trophies with different people in offenses and defenses, there’s no denying he shines wherever he is placed. That’s a rare gift, which in return gave him a 93.5 rating.

Joe Montana

Safe to say that the closest we’ll ever get to the greatest quarterback in NFL history is the supreme football star that is Joe Montana. He’s neck and neck with Brady for the top spot, but what sets him apart is his grace under pressure. And not to forget, that legendary Catch that put the Dallas Cowboys’ dynasty to rest.

If we’re talking numbers, Montana certainly isn't lacking - 40,551 yards, 273 touchdowns, eight Pro Bowls, and back-to-back MVPs in 1989 and 1990. If that’s not impressive enough, I don’t know what is.
