On Sunday, January 25th, 1987, the New York Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39-20 in Super Bowl XXI to win the 67th championship in NFL history. It was the fifth championship for the Giants franchise as Giants quarterback Phil Simms won the Super Bowl MVP Award. The game was held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor won the 1986 MVP Award with 20 and a half sacks to become the most recent defensive player to win MVP honors, while Rams running back Eric Dickerson won the 1986 Offensive Player of the Year Award with 11 rushing touchdowns and 1821 rushing yards.
