What a crazy game yesterday! I wasn't really on here much since it was my birthday but I did get a chance to enjoy a crazy game. It was Crosby vs McDavid, a battle that sadly only happens twice each year. Each time these two superstars come together you never know whats gonna happen and last night did not disappoint.
The game felt very back and forth with each team stealing the lead from the other multiple times, something that doesn't always happen in hockey. In all 11 goals were scored and we even got to see some overtime. Crosby and McDavid each got two points and both five players scored two goals each in the game. A real display of firepower.
The game ended up in overtime after the two teams playing to a 5-5 draw during regulation. You know that these two teams weren't going to make it to the shootout and the extra frame was electric. The game ended when Sydney Crosby absolutely undressed Ryan Strome to get himself all alone on Cam Talbot and Crosby buried the game winning goal.
Despite the loss from my beloved Oiler's I still had a big smile on my face at the end of the game. The Oiler's finally got some contributions from people not named McDavid and offensively was probably the best game the team has had all season. The team had a season high for shots, with 46 and it really seemed like a few of the lower lines really started to gel. Alex Chiasson had a huge game, scoring two goals and finding himself moving upwards in the lineup. Chiasson is a good story because he started the year as a PTO, got a contract, started the year as a healthy scratch, finally gets in the lineup and now has his first two goals in a Oiler's uniform.
The Oiler's now sit at 3-3-1 after 7 games and considering their schedule so far, that's a pretty respectable record. The Oiler's have two more brutal games this week before the schedule finally eases up a bit. Tomorrow the Oiler's face last years Stanley Cup champions, the Washington Capitals, and then on Saturday they head to Nashville to avenge last Saturdays loss to the Predators. If the Oiler's can manage a win in one of the next two games I think we will be able to call October a success, even before the final two games next week.
