For the last two years (2016+) the Toronto Maple Leafs played without a captain. This season, there's a lot of speculation how it'll all play out. (No, there's no chair.) 

Matthews vs Tavares

Before Tavares was signed all bets were on Matthews taking on the role. Rielly (or Marner, depending on who you ask) is a close third. Now it's a heated debate amongst fans and pretty much everyone else. Here's just one of the many social media polls:

My money is on Tavares or no one.  The Leafs need an experienced captain or to go another season while developing leadership skills, playing as a cohesive team and winning games.
