A solemn ceremony dedicated to a first-ever Stanley Cup winning took place on Wednesday before the home game between Washington and Boston.

All highlights of the champion season were played on the cube before the ceremonial part. The fans were welcomed by saying that this night is the result of the greatest season for Washington.

Only a few players left the Capitals in the off-season, among them are Jay Beagle and Philipp Grubauer. Therefore, the fans could not see these players on Wednesday but the lineup was introduced. Captain Alexander Ovechkin was the last to appear in public. He skated holding the trophy above his head and receiving roars from the fans.

"The moment we've all been waiting for has come. It will stay forever in our arena," owner Ted Leonsis rejoiced.

The Washington Capitals posed with the Stanley Cup under the champions banner before it got raised.

"It was incredible! Very happy to be a part of such a historical moment. Now we have to concentrate on the beginning of a new season. It will not be easy. But we know what kind of game we need to show to achieve results. We are all professionals," ESPN quoted Alexander Ovechkin.

It should be noted that Boston didn't stand a chance against Washington and lost 0:7. The Capitals will play the next game away on October 5 against Pittsburgh.
