On Thursday, April 14th, 1955, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Montreal Canadiens at the Detroit Olympia to win the 42nd Stanley Cup Finals four games to three. It was the seventh Stanley Cup championship for the Red Wings franchise, and the eighth that was won in Michigan. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #11 Calum MacKay (Canadiens)- F
MacKay earned player of the game honors in game four, adding a goal and an assist as the Canadiens picked up the 5-3 victory.
4. #10 Alex Delvecchio (Red Wings)- F
Delvecchio claimed player of the game in game three, as he scored two goals as the Red Wings went on to win 5-2.
3. #9 Gordie Howe (Red Wings)- F
Howe earned player of the game honors in game five, as he got a hat trick with three goals as the Red Wings went on to win 5-1.
2. #5 Bernie Geoffrion (Canadiens)- F
Geoffrion picked up player of the game in games three and six, as he scored a hat trick with three goals in game three as the Canadiens won it 4-2, followed up in game six as he got a pair of goals and an assist in the Canadiens’ 6-3 win.
1 . #7 Ted Lindsay (Red Wings)- F
Lindsay took player of the game honors in games one and two, getting one goal and two assists in the Red Wings’ 4-2 victory, while in game two he scored four goals as the Red Wings picked up a 7-1 win.
