On Sunday, June 12th, 2016, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center in San Jose to win the 102nd Stanley Cup Finals four games to two. It was the fourth Stanley Cup championship for the Penguins franchise, and the fourth that was won in California. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #27 Joonas Donskoi (Sharks)- F
Donskoi took player of the game in game three, getting one goal and one assist as the Sharks claimed the 3-2 overtime victory.
4. #39 Logan Couture (Sharks)- F
Couture earned player of the game honors in game five, scoring one goal and two assists on the way to a 4-2 victory for the Sharks.
3. #13 Nick Bonino (Penguins)- F
Bonino got player of the game in game one, scoring a goal in the Penguins’ 3-2 win to start off the series.
2. #71 Evgeni Malkin (Penguins)- F
Malkin picked up player of the game honors in game four, as he got a goal and an assist for a 3-1 Penguins victory.
1. #30 Matt Murray (Penguins)- G
Murray scored player of the game in game two, making 21 saves on 22 chances as the Penguins went on to take a 2-1 win in overtime.
