Carnival and vaudeville performer Frank “Cannonball” Richards was scared of nothing. He was well-known for his strong stomach – not as a result of what he ate but due to the abuse it could tolerate. As part of his act, men would jump on his stomach or hit him in the belly with a plank of wood or perhaps a sledgehammer. He then progressed to having a 104-pound cannonball shot into his midriff. Now that's guts!
Don't think he didn't feel pain though; he actually limited the cannonball act to twice each day since it hurt so much! Watch the YouTube clip to see how much he could take. It's unbelievable! Richards died in 1969 at the ripe old age 81, so this indicates the punishment his stomach took didn't have any terrible effects on his health.
