Revelations 2:4

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.

Many Christians profess to love God. Many will even swear on their lives that they love God. Do you think a lot of us actually know what love is? We profess with our mouths that we love God, but have nothing to show for it. We do what we want when we want without thinking of what God wants and yet still will always say we love God. How can we say we love God?

When was the last time you got to church before service started? Well, you might say that is too early, so let me ask another, when was the last time you got to work before official work hours? I'm sure you can remember that one, probably just today. When was the last time you evangelized or spoke to someone about God? When was the last time you called a Christian brother or sister who hasn't been in church for a while. When was the last time you prayed for someone who wasn't you or your immediate family?

In the above passage, God holds a complaint against us because we don't love him as we used to. When we are freshly born again, our zeal and love for God is very high and strong. The fact that we know we've been saved and have a new life makes us feel refreshed and energized in the Lord, but as time goes by, the love dwindles. It's like when two people first fall in love, they will do anything for each other. Overtime, they feel fine when they've not spoken in a whole day.

John 14:15

If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

If you love God, then keep His commandments. We all know about the 10 commandments, keep them. Be your brother's keeper. Check on him when he's backsliding. Pray for your friends and also your enemies. Do good to people, even those who can't reciprocate. Offer your service to the work of God and do it diligently. When you say you love God, show it by your actions and inactions and not just by word of mouth.
