KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Team Philippines was impressively doing well after winning the sixth overall standing of the 2018 ASEAN School Games last Thursday.

Team Philippines gain a total of 36 medals, with nine golds, including the 'sweep' in the basketball event for the sixth place in the 10-country annual meet.

The Philippine athletes has 10 out of 11 events and finished five golds to match the 13 gold medals in the previous School Games in Singapore. They have more silver(7) and bronze(20) medals than the previous year.

The host country, Malaysia, got 13 gold, 34 silver and 32 bronze medals, followed by Indonesia (31-36-30), Thailand (19-21-31), Singapore (13-16-22), and Vietnam (13-8-6).

The athletic team grabbed 6 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals for the 'best performer' in the delegation.

The 'most bemedalled' performer of Pinoy contigent is Jessel Lumapas a runner, Grade 11 standout of Nazareth School of National University, with 2 gold at 200m and 400m girl's event at the Mini-Stadium of National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil.

She also grabbed a bronze medal in the 4x400m event.

Philippine Chef-De-Mission Rizalino Jose Rosales congratulate the Filipino student-athletes for their game, despite the failure to meet the success last year in Singapore.

"Actually, I am really happy that all events won at least one medal. We actually achieved our goal for this year," Rosales said.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey said that the people from the Philippines were not disappointed with the young athlete's determination and enthusiasm for this tournament.

"I am very proud of them. They represented their country well. But, there will always be winners as well as losers in any sport," Maxey said.

The next ASEAN School Games will be held in Semarang, Indonesia.

I am proud of what our Philippine athletes did. They gave their best to win a game. I just want to thank and congratulate all of them for representing Team Philippines.
