Even though cats are considered to be pests because they kill the native wildlife such as birds around us. I personally believe that cats are not pests. How can animals that are kind, thoughtful, cuddly and fluffy be considered pests when all they are doing is reacting to their instincts that come from their DNA and lifestyle taught to them by their mother or father.

Yes cats kill birds but are cats actually getting enough food to sustain them?

Are the owners feeding the cats enough to fulfill their instinct to hunt. When cats are hungry they hunt if there is no other way from them to get food. Their survival instinct goes off inside them and all they want is food.

Most cats are not bird hunters but the few that are have been brought up that way by their owners not giving them enough food to sustain them or they used to be stray cats and that is the only way they know how to survive.

Cats that are domesticated and correctly looked after by their owners are easily going to be less likely to hunt and kill birds.

Stray cats are more likely to kill pests and harm birds as they know other way for them to get their food. As well as feral cats, so the breeding of cats will have to go down so that we are able to protect our wildlife and protect cats as being considered as pests.

Yes, cats kill birds but they are not the key contributor to the bird life and wildlife going down, ship rats are considered to be the main predator as to why bird life in new Zealand is decreasing.

Pets owners should be educated on the correct ways to look after their pets because even though cats are not the key contributors to the decrease in wildlife they still need to be contained so that they do not become it.

Before purchasing a cat, owners should educate themselves on how to look after the animal, so that the animals are cared for properly and wildlife does not decrease and become extinct in the following years.
