Samatha Kyle Catantan from the Philippines won a gold medal in the U23 Asian Fencing Championship which was held at Bangkok, Thailand. It was her first ever Asian gold medal. She was so happy and felt like that she was in heaven.
She won the Womens individual foil against Choi Yu Min from South Korea with a score of 15-9. She also won against Choi Minseo from Japan with a final score of 15-14. Catantan was also the MVP at UAAP (Universities Athletics Associations of the Philippines) in juniors division. On the other hand, she also won silver medal during the 2017 SEA games which was held at Malaysia.
