Me at my desk

This is me at my desk in the "man-cave" and it is where I spend most of my time these days. Over my right shoulder is the sitting area where you can find one of my two recliners, a futon for sitting or napping, and a nice antique rocking chair. My sitting area also has a fireplace with gas burning logs as a focal point, this is where the men come for high-level meetings and for devising plots against the women in our lives. Beyond the sitting area is a small alcove that I use as a theater room or screening room and it is where you can find the other recliner. I sit here watching videos, movies or reading. Behind me is a small kitchen area and what serves as my situation room. Here I eat my breakfast and lunch and I use my collection of maps, specifically the world map that you can just make out on the wall, to try and keep up with U.S. Navy Ship movements and major world events. Bamamama has the entire upstairs of the house to herself most of the day, but I go up often and discuss things that are going on with her, most of which has centered around Scorum over the last month or so. I also have my dinner upstairs with her where you will most often hear us discussing family, friends, and events going on concerning our Church and Church ministries.

Valentines Day 2014

This is a photo that was taken of us at our Church Valentines dinner four years ago. A lot of our life centers around Church and Church-related activities. We actually just returned home from our Wednesday night prayer meeting and we spent some time afterward playing games with the teenagers the gymnasium at the Church, it was leftover from a time when the Church also served as a school.

But I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. Lets back up a little and see how I got to this point. First of all, I was raised on a small farm in rural Alabama. My Dad worked two to three jobs to supply our families material needs and pay the bills, but the majority of the food that we ate when I was young was what we produced ourselves on the farm. We raised some cattle, we had chickens and we had both fruit and nut trees. We also had gardens that we used to grow all kinds of wonderful vegetables. Since my Dad worked so much off of the farm, a lot of the chores and general labor were left up to me, but I didn't mind because I have always enjoyed growing things and being outside in the fresh air.

I attended a small country high school, there were just fifty-two total students in my graduating class. I was active in several clubs and I played football, basketball and I was a long distance runner on our track team. I would like to be able to tell you that I was a star athlete, but my lovely wife who witnessed the whole thing would probably rat me out and tell you the whole truth. Football was definitely my best sport and I was on the starting roster my Junior and Senior years, but I was a long way from being a star.

I spent almost nine years in the U.S. Navy after high school, the first two years were mostly spent in training. After successfully completing the Navy Nuclear Power Training Program I volunteered for Submarine duty and served three years and seven months on a Sturgeon Class Nuclear Powered Attack Submarine, the USS Bluefish SSN 675. After leaving the Submarine I was transferred to Idaho Falls, Idaho where I served as a Nuclear Plant Instructor for an additional three and a half years.

But it wasn't just me when I was on the Submarine. In between Navy schools, I had taken a fast trip to Alabama to marry Bamamama and get her involved in my Navy career. In some ways, military life is a lot harder on the wives than it is the men serving. But one time while I was stationed on the Submarine, Bamamama was able to get a taste of what it was like to be out on the ocean in a Fast Attack Submarine. Check her out driving a Nuclear Powered Submarine while underwater on a dependents cruise.

Along the way, we had two children, our daughter was born prematurely and only lived for one day, we are looking forward to seeing her again in heaven one day soon. Our son Daniel lives near us and works at a chemical plant to pay the bills and then coaches defensive backs and wide receivers for one of the local high school teams for fun.

After I was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy I went to work for Southern Nuclear Company. In 1992 I was severely injured on the job, this right after being diagnosed with a serious heart disease. It was at this time that my doctors and company management decided that I could no longer physically do my job or be gainfully employed at any other job. Since that time I have been retired on disability.
