Since no one has posted anything about this yet and Plagiarism is rampant on the Internet, and you can be sued over it, I decided to write a simple warning here about this problem. I have found this subject to be one of the hardest things to understand and comply with when it comes to blogging. It is not hard for me to understand and remember to place quotation marks and give proper attribution to a quotation of text when I post it, but to find a photo, determine if it is copywritten and either pay for using it or provide accurate and complete attribution is extremely difficult at times. I would much rather use my own photos, but I don't have the resources to go out and obtain photos that are relevant to everything that I write about. So that means that I have to use a photo that someone else has taken, and if I can't find one that is free for reuse I may need to pay the royalties on them. If I can't afford the royalties then what is the answer? Should I take the chance and just post whatever I can find, thus stealing someone else's work? I'm not put together that way and I think that it is just wrong.
I would love to tell you all about the proper way to look for and post photos on Scorum in this blog, and I'm sure that someone will come along and do that at some time in the future, but I just don't feel qualified and I would be tempted to plagiarize someone else in order to get things correct lol. So here is a link to a great blog on Steemit that has been a tremendous help to me during my time of blogging over there.
Photo Plagiarism - How To Avoid It - Original Photography by @dmcamera
Just know that I would never intentionally plagiarize either someone's written work or steal a photo, but I have been known to make mistakes or forget things in the past. So if you ever see that I have forgotten to list a source or have mistakingly posted a copywritten photo, then please message me right away so that I can try to make things right. I think that anyone who plagiarises the work of others blatantly and unashamedly deserves to be flagged or downvoted because it makes all of us and the Scorum Platform look bad. My policy is to inform the person privately first and give them a chance to voluntarily correct the mistake, but if they continue on that path they need to be called out for it.
