Ah ah, high school was totally fun when it comes to games generally. Football and basketball was the most dominant among games in general, but during the inter house sports all types of sports are featured ranging from football, running, jumping ( high and long ), shotput throwing, javelin throwing etc.

The high school I attended has four houses namely: Topaz, Sapphire, Garnet and Emerald.

Topaz has the colour yellow on top and dark blue short as their sports attire, Sapphire has the colour sea blue on top and dark blue short as their sports wear, Garnet has the colour oxblood red on top and dark blue short with yellow linings as their sports wear while Emerald has green on top and dark blue shorts as their sports wear.

PREPARATIONS

Three weeks to the interhouse sports, many preparations are put in place, from cutting of the school football field, cleaning the school environment, training by the various houses, football matches between the houses ( medals are given on the day of the inter house sports) etc to ensure a hitch free event.

This single event is both important to the house members and the house masters and mistresses alike. No form of misconduct is allowed and any defaulter is severely punished.

It is in this period that you know those who can do the various sports mentioned above, and special credit must be given w the house masters and mistresses for discovering talents that usually led the house to victory. These people will make sure you at least participate in one sporting event to ensure that the best is gotten.

Such was the level of preparation given to this event because the bragging right was like wining the world cup to any house that finally clinched the coveted gold.

It is on record that Topaz house which fortunately was my house during my time has the most gold since the inception of the event .

Topaz well represented by me ( do not laugh lol because this picture was taken a long time ago.)

THE D-DAY

When everything must have been put in place, the inter house sports day looks like a sort of carnival because the school is lit up like never before and renowned dignitaries usually cane from far and wide to grace the occasion.

The most eye catching events of the day is the matching and the relay race events. here you get to see the excitement of the crowd to the extend that you can virtually touch it lol.

For me the most spectacular is during the relay race where you see what I refer to as magic as those you expected to lose actually come out victorious due to nothing but perseverance and determination.

After all the fun fare then comes the real deal which is the announcement of the results, here you see the beauty of the sports because everyone will be on their toes to know who is to get the bragging Rights for the year, the atmosphere is usually calm but as soon as the final result are out this is where you the frenzy in the whole stuff as you see people exchanging hugs for a feat well deserved and losers consoling each other and preparing to fight the next day .

And before I forget, those days glucose was like a life saver and those who got are deemed to have performed their very best for the house.

Finally at the end of the whole stuff, students are treated to a sumptuous meal prepared by the best hands.

This memory will for ever be engraved in my heart because those days were memorable.
