KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Malaysia's Minister of Education Dr. Maszlee Bin Malik at the opening ceremony of the 10th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Schools Games yesterday at Dewan Agung Canselor, UiTM in Sha, Alam.

A total of 1,500 secondary student-athletes, coaches, team managers, and delegation officials, including 230-man Team Philippines, have attended the simple ceremony at 10 ASEAN member-countries meet.

Education Undersecretary Tonisito S. Umali, Assistant Secretary Atty. Revsee Escobedo, and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, Chef-de-Mission Rizalino Jose Rosales, and deputy CDM Cesar Abalon, the delegation of countries that will be involved in 10 sports in a five-day tournament.

Also included in the program were Deputy Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam Datin Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah, president of the ASEAN School Sports Council and Malaysia's Director General of Education Dr. Amin Bin Monday.

The PH Team consists of 167 medalists from the Palarong Pambansa who will feature artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, sepak takraw, and squash.

Maxey informs that she is planning to watch all athletics which has promising talents.

The target of the National that they will meet and even if not they will not surpass the 13 gold, eight silver and 21 bronze medal for the sixth spot finish in the Singapore edition.

This is an opportunity of the Philippine athletes to compete other ASEAN athletes so they will able to improve their skills and gain more experience on their field of sports. They will surely make their country proud aside from winning medals.

With this games, it can help improve strengthen the relationship between countries.
