The most remarkable thing about the new gymnasts who have become senior in 2022 is that there are no outstanding gymnasts from Russia. I can't remember a year in the past (either recent or remote) when Russia didn't have a strong new senior gymnastics contender. However, in 2021 there were not a lot of junior international competitions, and even at the Russian nationals, we didn't see many gymnasts who were becoming senior in 2022 with the necessary skills or technique to win medals at world championships. But we can't forget that it's Russia who we're talking about, so they might have a hidden new "Viktoria Komova" or "Aliya Mustafina" waiting to become huge gymnastics stars, we'll see.

For now, I'm happy to see gymnasts from Romania capable of winning European championships and Ukraine bringing some young talent to the senior ranks; and also Italy, which has been presenting very strong gymnasts in the past few years (they are world championships bronze medal winners), with the Angela Andreoli, who might very well be the new Vanessa Ferrari, ready to bring a world title home.

As for the US, it seems that their dominance is starting to slowly dematerialize, and though there are a few interesting gymnasts becoming senior, there are not exceptional gymnasts like Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Morgan Hurd,... It seems that their best gymnasts this season are all in the NCAA championship.

There is also China, a country that has a huge pool of gymnasts to choose from. The Chinese usually produce phenomenal gymnasts on beam and bars that seem to come out of nowhere and who are exciting to watch.

With all that said, I can wait for this year's competitions to start!
