After a successful campaign of the Philippine Volcanoes in the recent Asian Rugby Championships, Rugby returns to its glory in the country at the event of the Rugby 7s Festival - the Round 1 of the 2018 Globe Sevens Series this weekend.

A total of eight teams will fight against each other in two groups for a one-round robin format where teams that will take lead will play the finals.

The tournament featured members of the National Developmental Team in the men's and women's division.

Six rugby festivals are scheduled to take place until October where the most points in the series will be the champion.

Jovan Masalunga a competitions manager for Philippine Rugby which looking at both Asia Sevens Series and The World Sevens Series. With such competition and the nature of the game, they have awarded winning teams on each festival and not just one team in at the end of a season.

Jake Letts said that the Sevens season structure is really exciting, where they witness a traditional festival atmosphere. At every end of the game, they will able see which team perform the best on that day. Aside from that in weekend National Development Division will be featuring local talents like Ryan Padilla, Jonel Madrona, Lito Ramirez and Johnly Baloloy.

Teams Clark Jets, Makati Chiefs, Santos Knight Frank Mavericks, Eagles RFC, Albay Bulkans, La Liga Academy and Eagles RFC will be clashing in Southern Plains, Calamba at 9:30 in the morning.

It will be held also in Palawan 7s on August 10-11, the Kadawayan 7s on August 18 and after that Fatboys 10s in Clark and Cebu 10s in November.
