At one time, when I ran my first mountain trail, namely "Goverla Race", I wanted to find something similar and run abroad. I then wanted to start my acquaintance with foreign trail races from Poland, as there is a large selection of different trail races and it was cheap to get from Ukraine. But 2020 prevented these plans from being implemented. But then looking for an interesting mountain foreign trail accidentally came across the trail league "Golden Trail League". This series interested me because, in addition to the world series, it also consisted of national series.
Of the mountain races, I have only one participant in the treasury, so I decided that this year I definitely need to run a foreign mountain race. Since in modern realities the choice of countries for running is quite limited, so I decided to see what is interesting in terms of running can be found in Croatia and stumbled upon a local trail series called "Kvarner Trails Series".
"Kvarner Trails Series" attracted my attention because it consisted of races, where the main distance is up to 42 kilometers. In addition, in this trail series, there are two separate mountain races, namely "Risnjak Trail" and "Ucka Trail". Since these two running events were the "Golden Trail National Series" of Croatia. So I had a great opportunity to run a foreign mountain trail and take part in the "Golden Trail National Series" at the same time.
About the series
Croatia has joined the "Golden Trail League", namely to create its national league in 2021. "Croatia's Golden Trail National Series" includes mountain trails such as:
- Risnjak Trail - 30 kilometers with an altitude of 1733 m.
- Ucka Trail - 31 kilometers with an altitude of 1520 m.
These two mountain trails of the series take place on the outskirts of the city of Rijeka, which makes them quite convenient in terms of travel.
To participate in the “Golden Trail National Series” of Croatia, a participant must take part in two races of the series. Where after each race the 30 best participants receive the appropriate points (1st place - 100 points, 30 - 2 points). The overall rating of the “Golden Trail National Series” of Croatia consists of the sum of points received by a participant for two races, but if the participants have an equal number of points, the better one is the one who spent less time overcoming two trails.
In addition, the first three places in the "Golden Trail National Series", both for men and women, receive a cash prize and a "Golden Pass", which allows them to take part in the "Golden Trail Championship".
