I wrote a post a while back. It feels like it was a few days ago, but an actual fact, it's more like a few months back! It was shortly before Christmas. Time flies when you're having fun and also when you have 3 children aged 5 and under! It's fun too, but a different kind of fun than the twenties fun!

Anyway, I digress. So the post I am talking about was a simple post outlining 5 things I wanted to change or reignite going into 2019. The post can be found here:

https://scorum.com/en-us/scorum/@ablaze/don-t-forget-to-feed-the-minnows-and-my-5-resolutions-for-2019

I'm proud to say I'm nailing resolutions 1 to 3 and to be fair these were the more difficult ones. I am already writing weekly updates on resolution number 2. The latest of which can be found here:

https://scorum.com/en-us/fitness/@ablaze/regaining-my-fitness-week-8-update

So I won't delve into that one at all in this post. I'll concentrate on resolution 1 and resolution 3, which were about supporting minnows on Scorum and eating healthily respectively.

Resolution 4 and 5 were about getting back into surfing, camping and playing the guitar and although I haven't managed any of these yet, I plan to definitely try in 2019 all going to plan. These are all fun activities, so it's up to me to find time over the summer months this year. I'll talk about these in more detail when I get a chance to enjoy them, but the main thrust of this post is around healthy eating and minnow support.

Minnow Support

This was up there in lights as my first resolution for 2019. I have always been generous with upvotes for newbies and minnows and the aim was and is to get better at that. Every time I log on, I still try and have a root around and dig out a great new user who I can sprinkle with an upvote or two. We all remember those early upvotes. They felt great didn't they and the more we got, the more we believed in the future of Scorum and the more determined we became to write better and better pieces. We are all responsible for this. Think of us as gardeners who need to water these new seeds and see if we can help them to germinate and grow. I was lucky enough to have @pete tending to my Scorum garden in my earliest Scorum days and through the help of him and others I have watched my account go from strength to strength. Back then the thought of getting to $10 SCR of upvotes was huge. Now my account has grown such that I can make approx $10 SCR worth through 1 week's curation. I now want to watch as others take off on similar trajectories.

Organic Growth

One thing that I am very proud of is that I grew my account organically from 5SCR right up to where it stands now at 3000SCR. Now I understand the whole "skin in the game" argument as well, but I think it would have been a hell of a lot easier for me to set aside €200 to buy some SCR at the start and fly right to Pro status and have a nice early boost in growing my account. I guess you could think of that as shop bought chemical fertiliser. I instead opted for the organic natural fertiliser which involved really getting to know members of the community and striking up a relationship with them. To you my wonderful gardners, thanks ever so much. I literally could not have done it without you all.

Of course that is not to discredit those who brought "skin to the game", as that shows your belief and confidence in the platform and also requires devotion and many of these users have also got to know the community very well and work tirelessly for the community. I'm just proud to have started at 5SCR and worked my way up to 3000SCR through writing and engagement.

So to all you minnows out there, I would say hard work pays off. Your account won't magically grow by itself. It takes time and effort and eventually the good people of Scorum will find you and support you. That might take days, a week, a month... but it will happen so long as you concentrate on quality and honesty. They are the most important virtues around here.

Valuable Asset

To my fellow longer term and SP rich users, continue to support our newest users. These are the ones that need the power of our upvotes the most and who will benefit the most and appreciate it the most. I suspect we lose the highest proportion of these new users inside the first week if they don't get some nice upvotes. We are not blessed with a huge community just yet, so any new users are a valuable asset. It is so important to incubate these new accounts as they come on stream and join our wonderful eco-system.

We have 33429 active users as of 7pm on Monday 4th March 2019 and many of these are multiple accounts or zombie accounts. As that number grows, it is our job to try and keep each user active. Sure their posts might be a bit all over the place or short or badly written, but still why not give a little upvote and give some constructive advise about a better approach and maybe tell them about the benefits of writing an introduction post. Then if you see them heed this advise, a bigger upvote for their next post or maybe a follow could be given to help further encourage them. Now you have an engaged and encouraged new member and it will bring a smile to your own face too, as you give someone that helping hand. I have some ideas I am working on at the moment that I will share in due course about progressing some of this ideology.

My 3rd resolution is the next discussion point and this one centres around healthy eating.

I had planned to cover that off in this post as well, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it warrants a post dedicated entirely to healthy eating and one I spend sufficient time researching and planning. So I'm going to sign off this post now.

Note: I have used the tag "introducemyself" with the aim of this post hopefully trending in that section, so that minnows can see how important they actually are, if that is inappropriate, I can untag that, just let me know folks.

Thanks a million for reading.

Peace Out.
