Head is foggy? You have nothing to write about? Everything is already written? It does not happen.
When choosing a topic, pay attention to three points:
- You understand what you are writing about.
- The topic is interesting to potential readers.
- You have a personal opinion about this.
If you understand any two of the three points are fulfilled, you can start writing.
Of course, there are types of articles and genres in journalism in which you can do without each of these rules, but in most cases this scheme works.
Be relevant
It is important for your topic to be relevant — it would be strange to write about the matches of last summer’s World Cup in the late fall. Numerous events of different scale are held in the world of sports every day. A talented author is distinguished by the ability to see details that the others didn’t pay attention to. The value of a blogger's post increases when all the information is analyzed by him, viewed and presented with a certain individual angle. Express in your post emotions caused by the event — but make sure you are understood correctly.
Be yourself
Do not try to impress others with your text — first of all you should like it. Do not fool your readers by replacing your opinion with someone’s more popular. Every successful blogger is a person who is not afraid to say what they think.
If it seems to you that there is no suitable topic — read the posts from the last few days. You will certainly find a post that you disagree with. Do not rush to comment your opinion under the article — instead take this idea as the topic for a new post. Think over the plan of your post and the idea you want to convey. Start writing immediately while emotions are swirling inside you.
Create relevant list posts
To present current events with more context, try creating various “Tops” listicles. Top 5 highly paid, rough, high, technical, expensive or any other adjective that can be interesting to your audience and relevant, as we already mentioned before.
Habib got into a fight with the McGregor team? Create “Top 5 scandals in the UFC”. Ronaldo moved to Juventus? Think about the most expensive transfers in Series A. Cristiano did not score in the first three rounds of the championship? Remember the worst starts of the season in his career.
Experiment
Fantasize. Provoke. Play with the reader. You believe that CSKA will win this year's Champions League? Go with that! Support the text with arguments and continue the discussion in the comments.
Unsuccessful posts are those that do not cause any emotions — neither positive nor negative.
At the same time, remember that there is no perfect formula of how to choose perfect topic — experiment, be creative and look for look for things that are close to you.
