What is Scorum
Millions of people generate huge income for social media and blogging platforms, getting only a small share of total revenue. On Scorum, people are given the opportunities that were previously hard to imagine.
Scorum is an innovative blockchain-powered sports ecosystem with its own cryptocurrency. True sport-lovers now have the opportunity to monetize their passion. As an industry, sports have a really low amount of user-generated content so the time is now to take advantage of that.
You can do everything you do on Facebook, Twitter or any other social media, and be rewarded for any activity on the platform. Users earn money by posting their publications, writing comments and adding photos while readers earn by casting their votes for quality content.
How much do bloggers make
The amount varies a lot. Top bloggers make millions, have lots of subscribers and contracts with big advertisers, charge thousands of dollars for advertising. And some of them make almost no money from their blogs at all. Why is the gap so huge?
The answer is simple. Because people quit. They come to blogging hoping for easy and quick money not expecting to face difficulties and then, after realizing it’s hard work, they give up. And those who are passionate about blogging, those who strive and work hard no matter what, show good numbers and results.
It’s hard to estimate a blogger’s average income, but according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the US, “Writers and Authors” have the average income of $61,820 per year, that’s $5150 a month.
How much and how do bloggers on Scorum make
I prepared some interesting diagrams about monthly earnings on Scorum.
The first graph shows the cream of the crop – top 30 people by earnings on Scorum in the first month. Note! All graphics are relevant at the time of writing (August 14th).
The graph shows that total earnings of top 30 users amounted to 56999,5 SP, equivalent to 1899,96$ (internal exchange rate) for each user. As you can see, you can earn SP by publishing posts and comments as well as voting for content. Robin-ho has made 3772 SP, pretty good for the first month, huh?
The second graph shows 30 users that generated the most content so far.
It’s worth noting that the number of publications not always correlates with the reward received. For example, the member ‘omjack’ published 276 posts, averaged 8.9 per day. It’s more than anyone on Scorum at the time of writing. On average, he gained 3.98 SP for each post. Why didn’t he earn in proportion to the number of his articles? Because most of his publications are plagiarized which is not encouraged by the reader community.
Every post on Scorum generates about 55 SP on average. High-quality and timely articles can easily earn more than 100 SP. Let’s keep it in mind, we’ll come back to this later
Old Ways of monetizing content
- CPC or CPM Ads
CPC (PPC) Ads: Cost per click (pay per click) ads. Banners (most of the time) that bloggers place in the content or sidebar of the site. Each time a reader clicks on the ad, you are being paid.
CPM Ads: CPM Ads, or “price of 1,000 advertisement impressions,” are ads that pay you a fixed amount of money based on how many people clicked on the ad. When a website charges $2.00 CPM, it means that an advertiser pays $2.00 for every 1,000 impressions of its ad.
- Pros: passive regular income.
- Cons: high traffic volume is needed.
- Private Ads
Private ads can come in the form of banners, buttons, or links. Sponsored posts or reviews about an advertiser’s product or service are also very popular ways of advertising.
- Pros: you can control the content and set your own ad rates.
- Cons: the appropriate audience is needed, it may not be that big but has to meet the demands of an advertiser.
- Affiliate links
Affiliate link is a unique link you can add to your article or website. When someone clicks on it and makes a purchase, a blogger gets a set commission.
There are blogs where authors put links to stuff on Amazon and earn commissions from Amazon Associates.
- Pros: you can choose the products you want to promote.
- Cons: high traffic volume is needed.
- Digital products selling
You can recommend books, online courses, services, music, video, apps, plugins etc. to your customers.
- Pros: the ability to sell your own products.
- Cons: constant traffic is needed.
As you can see, all of them require a large audience, which is hard to achieve and therefore, makes it almost impossible to make money at the beginning of a blogger’s career. Scorum ensures good traffic and audience involvement. That’s why I feel like this is the best place for novices to start.
What do you need to start a blog and start making money on Scorum?
Let’s go through all the steps of how to make money blogging:
- Create an account
Hit the “get started” button in the upper right corner of the page and complete the registration.
Very important! The key must be backed up in a safe place and protected from accidental loss. The private key must remain secret at all times because revealing it to third parties is equivalent to giving them control over the cryptocurrency. Scorum team doesn’t save keys, they can’t even reset is, the only person who has access to it is yourself. It cannot be recovered and, in case of loss, the funds in your wallet are forever lost, too. I recommend writing it down on paper in case of force majeure.
- Set up your blog
Write a short bio about yourself, add a nice profile and background picture. Here are some good examples of an attractive profile:
Looks good right? A well-decorated profile will make you stand out and will bring more attention to your posts.
- Select a topic for your blog
You need to strike a balance between these three closely related and important things:
- Are you familiar and comfortable with the topic you’re planning to write about?
If you want to make money blogging the answer should certainly be yes because attempting to prepare high-quality material without being well-versed in the subject is unlikely to succeed. If you try to write on some complicated topics, such as football analytics or betting, users will quickly point out your drawbacks and you will not attract attention to your blog and therefore will not earn money.
But there is a way out. Nothing prevents you from making interesting or light-hearted articles on trending topics, as did I, writing about England and Egypt national football teams kits before the World Cup or my last long read article about my tennis racquet reviews.
2. Sports popularity on Scorum and audience availability
Choose a popular niche. It is obvious that the presence of the reading audience on Scorum affects how much you can earn, but there is an exception - there are sections on Scorum where there is no writers at all and you can be the one who takes it without competition! So this is two-fold advice: you can write content on popular topics as well as discover new ones and build your own audience.
Another good way to gain subscribers — posting about some undiscovered and exotic sports. People always like to learn about strange and fanciful kinds of sports they have never heard about. I will try to make money on publications devoted to Sepak Takraw. Seems like an interesting sport that, I’m sure, not many people are aware of. However, it’s just an example… Follow me and monitor the progress.
3. Consider the popularity of the sport in the world.
Let’s take WWE, for instance. Top WWE posts on Scorum barely hit 20 SP, even though it’s a pretty popular in the world, especially in the US. If it’s not popular on Scorum yet, it doesn’t mean that the audience cannot be attracted!
Football is the most popular game in the world and obviously, more people are more interested in reading about football than, for example, badminton, but it doesn’t mean that this audience wouldn’t like to read some pieces about badminton. There are people who don’t have a preferable sport, some of them are interested in sports in general, some enjoy a healthy lifestyle and would gladly read and reward some pieces about healthy diet, for example. Attracting people and making the post interesting for all of them becomes a writer’s mission. It will help you expand your audience and and boost your income.
How to analyze to earn more money
The amount of money you'll make blogging depends on the analysis to a large extent. I’ll briefly tell you about topic selection as I’m planning to make post fully devoted to it.
In order to understand the popularity of a sport, you can refer to Google Adwords statistics.
- Sign in to your Google Adwords account
- Select Tools / Keyword Planner
- Specify the keywords of the topic you want to write about and it will show you the other words on this topic you can use.
- Group the words into logical blocks so you have an idea of what you should write about and make a structured plan of the article.
I used this tool to estimate the potential monthly traffic volume of sports on Scorum for 4 countries with the largest English-speaking audience: USA, Canada, UK, India. I divided it into 3 graphs (according to traffic volume) and got interesting numbers showing that there is no competition in many sections of Scorum at all, and therefore it will be easier to make money with a blog writing on these topics.
Football category has the greatest number of publications, while there are sections that can potentially collect lots of traffic and have small number of publications on Scorum blogging platform (1-10) or have no publications at all (Squash, Polo)
On Scorum there is some disproportion in the categories. The most popular topics are Football, Other, Betting, Cricket, Scorum, NBA, Cybersport, Boxing, Basketball, MotoGP, Tennis, Fantasy sports, MMA and Fitness. Therefore, the authors who will write content on less popular topics now will be encouraged more for two reasons:
- Because of people interested in improvement and development of the platform
- There is no competition
What is the most profitable category on Scorum and what is the average publication pay-out?
The graphs below shows information for each category.
Let's sum up
Popular subjects don’t guarantee large payments, so finding a balance between the three previously stated things: competence, competition on Scorum and popularity of the sport is the recipe for your success.
How to write
Here are some recommendations for you to make the blog interesting and attractive to users and earn more money blogging:
Make a strong title
Write a catchy intro
A text must be structured and divided into logical paragraphs
Use headers emphasize main points
A good text should answer readers' questions or explain the subject
Be clear and don’t write more than you need to
Don’t be too short
Build a storyline and logical flow
Use relevant illustrations or pictures
Write short sentences so people don’t get lost (if you run out of breath saying the sentence out loud, it’s too long)
How to start converting readers to followers?
Here are some tips:
- The most obvious thing is to encourage readers to follow you as you go along and at the end of the post.
- Leave a reference to your future articles and plans at the end to keep the reader's’ interest.
- Try using Zeigarnik effect.
- Get involved in discussions with readers.
- Support other writers that produce quality content.
How often do you need to blog to earn money
Try to find a middle ground between quality and quantity.
It is hardly possible to write many quality contents in a short time. Those who write several articles per day are most likely professionals and do it for a long time or publish plagiarized stories.
Our goal is to reach a permanent income, and this can only be done by making original content and gaining the users’ trust.
Some Scorum statistics
I gathered data from writers and grouped them according to five earnings categories:
- More than 100 SP
- Between 50 and 100 SP
- Between 10 and 50 SP
- Around 10 SP
- No SP
I assumed that the longer the article, the more earnings. And it has proved. The average number of words in the first group is 678.5 words, in the second 576, the third has 574,5, the forth – 417. The fifth group has 475 words on average which is more than the previous. It shows that publications with 0 rewards could have been copy-pasted more often.
The samples don’t consider the popularity of sports, etc. You’ll be able to examine more detailed statistics in my future publications.
That you need to do now is to assess the time you need to prepare a quality article and make a plan with expected earnings.
Scorum economy
Scorum has its own internal economy based on free market principles. By using blockchain technology as the platform’s foundation, Scorum has a transparent and fair reward system for platform members. To implement this functionality, Scorum Coins(SCR) cryptocurrency and Scorum Power (SP) tokens were issued.
Scorum rewards its active users for creating and engaging with content. Users get rewarded for being active on the platform: from post writers to commenters to users who cast their votes for posts. The reward depends on how many people voted for an article or a comment and their Voting Power (VP).
The special feature in the reward system on Scorum is that all rewards are divided between writers, commentators and voters. You can learn more about Scorum economy and rewards distribution the Whitepaper.
What is SP? Scorum Power (SP) is an internal token that needed to enable technical interactions between the system’s users. SP value is directly proportional at 1:1 ratio to SCR.
What is SCR? Scorum Coins (SCR) is cryptocurrency. Same as Bitcoin, Ethereum or Litecoin. It can be converted, transferred to other users or sold on the exchange.
How to convert SP to SCR or vice versa?
The SCR-to-SP exchange happens immediately. The SP into SCR conversion processes in equal shares within 12 months after the conversion process activation. This measure is aimed at protecting token holders’ interests. All conversion operations can be carried out in your Scorum Wallet.
SCR rate of exchange
Since the Scorum Crowdsale all cryptocurrencies including SCR fell in value against USD. Take BitCoin, for example. Being at about 17k it’s now slightly more than 6k
SCR is now around 0.35-0.25$ (at the time of writing), but unlike other cryptocurrencies, it’s supported by a big project. The blogging platform that been launched on June the 13th is still in its beta version and already has more than 12 thousand active users and about 1300 writers. And it’s just the beginning. With the advertising platform launch and rise in demand the SCR rate can be expected to increase. You can always check an updated SCR rate on Coinmarketcap.
How to get the money you made on Scorum
Scorum Coins (SCR) can be sold on the exchange. You’ll need to register on OpenLedger or Rudex to start trading. I’ll explain the whole procedure in detail in the following articles.
Conclusion
If you're wondering how to make money blogging and planning to make blogging your main source of income, patience and hard work are the keys and Scorum is a good place to do so.
This is a new generation of sports media that can significantly change the industry. The place where bloggers can be fairly rewarded for their work. It’s still the beginning of a big project.
