This post is for that new user (newbie) who perhaps is nursing ideas that may not auger well for him or her in the long run on this platform.
SELF UPVOTES.
When the blogging section of Scorum started, it was noticed that certain users who bought a lot of Scorum during the ICO thought wise that since they have invested heavily on the platform, it will be smart to pay themselves first. They are their first consideration and nothing else. These users will make multiple one minute comments in a day and vote those same comments.
Yours sincerely foolishly and selfishly decided to join the band wagon of self up voters. Conceitedly i told myself that since these guys are doing it and my SP isn't that bad, why not help yourself too. So i made multiple 20 or so seconds comments and upvote them all. I must confess that doing so was so sweet especially when one is driven by greed to make fast buck with less concern for the general growth and well-being of the Scorum community.
PLAGIARISM
One other hideous habit that showed it's face on our dear and infant platform is plagiarism. I am yet to fully grasp the whole thing surrounding it although sir @pate did a post about it (read it here).
But what i want to talk about here is about those users who will go to a website, copy everything and post it on scorum platform as theirs. Others will translate an entire content from some foreign language, post it on scorum without the tiniest form of reference or acknowledgement, then clean their mouths and say i do no harm. Lots of users at the beginning were guilty of this act. I can only classify such attitude as laziness at its highest. Whatever is wrong with making ones research and writing ones story!
PICTURE CONTENTS.
Also there were users who will simply go to a website, especially during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, download pictures and post it on scorum platform with no or just few lines of text and that's that. Yet such user will expect serious writers on the platform who take a minimum of 24 hours of researching and writing their own contents to give him or her an upvote.
The thing is, if those pictures were theirs it would have been a different thing entirely. The originality and genuineness of the pictures will unerringly attract upvotes and comments from serious minded users.
SOLICITING FOR VOTES.
There is every thing good about soliciting for votes from the big guys on the platform, especially when one has toiled for hours on end to put down a well written content which may easily get lost after some couple of minutes on the platform. As a new user with little SP, if you must solicit for votes make sure your content is original and interestingly rich. That way, the big users without being prompted will occasionally pay your blog a visit to see how you are faring.
THE SCORUM CRUSADERS.
Fortunately, this platform is blessed with users with high moral principles who's consciences cannot not be won over by greed despite having impressive SPs. One of such person is @nhl (a no nonsense personality). He along with the rest were directly advising users who vote only their comments but refrain from voting for the owners of the parent posts. I remember one user in defense of his actions said he had invested huge amount of money on the platform and as such is at liberty to do as he pleases with his investment. @nhl and co motives are nothing but for having a healthy ecosystem, where people get rewarded for a job well done and the growth of Scorum for the benefit of everyone.
EXTREME MEASURES TAKEN.
When the negative effect of self voting, plagiarism and the rest were quickly pointed out, majority of the perpetrators immediately stopped the habit including yours sincerely. However, those who obstinately continued didn't expect what was coming. They were marked and listed in the black books of the crusaders. What followed after a fashion was a frenzy of flag downs that rendered previously acquired upvotes down to zero and complete shunning of contents posted by the accused.
There are users today who are still suffering from their actions on the unset. Despite having turned new leafs, the impression which they created is still fresh and not forgotten on the community. consequently, they enjoy little or no votes at all. As it is, the measures taken, extreme as it may seem, has brought about a great deal of sanity on this platform, a lot have gotten in line. They say "A stitch in time saves nine".
ADVISE.
If you are a new user, know that as long as you put an effort to dish out good contents, be assured that the effort will not be lost on the community, it will definitely reward you in the long run. Yours sincerely is not a prolific writer nor is there anything spectacular about his contents, but the general community is benevolent enough to encourage him do more by the upvotes which his mediocre posts receives. If he can do it, you can also do it.
On the whole, it will be safe to say that "Scorumians" are a listening community, a community that is willing to take warnings, admonitions and corrections. A community that subsist on reciprocal concession too.
REMEMBER, THE CRUSADERS ARE WATCHING!!. BE ORIGINAL!!!!
