Twitter is the number one social media platform for sports, it goes beyond Facebook in terms of meaningful discussion and sharing of sports news. Millions of users everyday 'tweet', 'retweet' and comment on sports events and stories. But who get's paid for all these small snippets of content? The answer - only Twitter through the Ad's they run. Not even high profile celebrities and prominent figures who attract millions of users to the platform actually get any reward for using the platform other than their own personal arrangements off the platform. Where the platform gives easy access to anyone to promote themselves and communicate with others, it does very little to reward those that actually keep Twitter popular.

Scorum can learn alot from Twitter and provide a new 'Twitter Like' sports micro blogging platform. After Twitter expanded it's character count to 280 it hugely improved the platforms ability to allow sports fans to share meaningful commentary on sports. No longer did fans get brain freeze on how they could cram so much they wanted to say into a tiny breadcrumb of a tweet.

Scorum Can Snatch a Big Chunk of Twitters Sports Users

If you want to find what other people think about sports stars, matches and tournaments look no further than Twitter right now. It is the number one broad discussion platform for sport going beyond the capabilities of more personal social chatting apps like Whatsapp, Viber, LINE. Facebook is perhaps the only true rival but Twitter's design and facilitation of sharing information is superior for a mass audience. Most of it's user engagement comes from people 'Micro Blogging'. Pretty much writing a paragraph or two at best with other users able to respond below their tweet with comments or to retweet a users tweet to their own group of followers. From a fan point of view rather than an official sporting figure an author usually shares an opinion on something that has happened, is going to happen or what they would like to happen, sometimes with a link to a sporting website with an article and his or her own opinion attached. Videos and images can also be added to comments.

People can follow the author to get their news and comments in their news feed. No one is rewarded for the discussion, neither the author or the commentators below the authors writing. So Twitter earns all the revenue for ads shown around all this user generated content. Nearly all Twitters users write from their mobile phones not their PC's and Mac's.

Scorum can mould it's current platform which resembles Twitter to a degree to become the Twitter of Sports but with the key benefit Twitter users currently don't receive. What benefit is that? Simply the ability to earn Crypto Currency and to give it out to others for user generated content.

Imagine users on their mobile phone being able to write comments on sports and receive SP for those comments plus for commenting on other peoples comments. Micro-blogging users massively out number article writers. This doesn't mean Scorum should abandon it's current core function of being a sports fan blogging platform for passionate writers but to ignore the much further reaching user base from social media driven by mobile phones is to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Scorum wouldn't need to get lost in developing an entire newly part of their platform for mobile users to take advantage of this untapped market. All they would need to do is reduce the amount of VP a user could give for micro-blog/comment compared to those writing full articles. For example people commenting using the Scorum App could be allowed to receive a maximum of perhaps 0.5-1% of VP from another user as opposed to 5% for articles. Maybe a more sophisticated way of being able to assess who is micro blogging and who is article writing could be thought of further down the line but this isn't so important right now.

I loose count of the amount of mates I have that are fantastic writers that I have tried to recruit to Scorum. The problem is they are all so busy with their day jobs they have no time for Scorum - I write for the website because I work for myself and have more flexibility and time. But my friends all use Twitter and Whatsapp to share views quickly on sports - in particular football as most are from England. But if Scorum had a mobile app operating like Twitter but where they could earn crypto currency just by sharing their views quickly in sentences or paragraphs or comments rather than articles, it would be easy to recruit more users to Scorum. You could even allow mobile users to view the main website and all the articles written there, comment on those articles through the app, just by keeping the Twitter style part of the app under one tab and the main article section under another. I show this below in a quick design I made for the potential app mimicking Twitter's current design and functionality.

What Scorum would decide to name the mobile user section in the app is up for debate but is not as important right now as the ability to allow mobile users to write short sports opinions and earn from their views. Whether you call it the 'Discussion' Section, 'Social Post', the 'Micro Post' Section when separating it from the current main blog, users will still quickly become accustom to what each section represents so we shouldn't get too hung up on this.

So one key technical question would be, what would stop a user from posting a comment as an article from their phones and earning more SP - the answer is nothing right now. One key change I would like to see the developers make would be introduce a minimum word count for the main blog to stop people writing tiny pieces that serve no real purpose for a site aimed at Sports blogging. If we look at most of the sports media sites online that people read they will post a minimum of 500 words for each of their articles. I think it would be a good move to see Scorum set some editorial standards in terms of the depth of a persons article so we guarantee people are writing and sharing articles with real thoughtful content rather than a sentence or two which is more like a social post. This would be a good basic start for improving the standard of writing on Scorum. Eventually as the website grows editorial standards will need to be introduced to maintain a quality image for the platform and prevent the sorts of attacks that occurred with the Bleacher Report being known as a content farm.

In Summary:

> Scorum Mobile App which can be downloaded at Google Play (Android), iTunes (iOS) and Windows Store (Windows Phone).

> Main Blog with articles accessible for users to write articles from their phones should they wish with a minimum word count imposed

> Twitter Like Section - Where fans can post comments and share their views quickly on sports and earn SP. A maximum word count can be imposed here like Twitter which has 280 character limit.

Conclusion

The mobile user market is enormous, it's user base is many times that of PC and Mac users. Targeting this market with the a well designed app similar to Twitter would see Scorum's own user-base increase exponentially and with that their advertising revenue and crypto currency value. It's a market they cannot afford to ignore if they want to get ahead of other potential future competitors and be the first to market.
