From the business world to social networks, having a large following comes with benefits. Turning one-month-old this past week, the benefits of having a large following on Scorum are not yet completely clear.

So why does building a large base of followers on Scorum matter, and how do you do it? Let's start with why it matters.

Why Followers Matters

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, Steemit and other platforms all provide value to users based on their followers. If you have hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers, you will likely get likes, retweets, and additional follows, which gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts with a larger audience. On some platforms, like Instagram for example,  accounts can be sold purely based on the number of followers and interactions each post receives.

Steemit, if you're not familiar with the platform, is a cryptocurrency-based social media network that rewards people for interacting with others, publishing content, etc. Like Scorum, you can follow accounts and gain followers. When you follow an account, this user's posts appear in your feed, giving you an opportunity to read, vote, and share them.

A similar feature will soon be added to Scorum. When additional updates are implemented, every follower you have will represent an opportunity to get an additional read, comment, and vote for your blog posts, similar to Steemit. Instead of needing your posts to trend in order to get noticed, your followers will see your articles in their feed. This offers each author a great opportunity to grow their account on Scorum. But in order to benefit from your followers and share your great work with them, you have to recruit them first.

How to Build Your Base of Followers

If you want more followers, you should act intentionally. Sure, if you write great content, interact with other authors on the platform, and stay engaged, you will naturally grow your followers, but there are other ways to influence the number of people who are likely to click the "follow" button.

Although I don't have everything figured out here, I have been able to gain followers and I will work my hardest to keep them and prove to others why I'm worth following. Here are several quick tips on growing your base of followers here on Scorum.

Quick Tips

  • Write a great post for beginners on Scorum. By helping new users, they will look to you for more advice and are likely to follow you.
  • Write a post worth promoting. Scorum is actively promoting user posts in Google that will help recruit writers to Scorum. When a new user signs up because of your post, they will automatically follow the writer of the post they read (you!).
  • Ask others to consider following you when appropriate. No one likes to be told to vote for or to follow someone, but there are smart and acceptable ways to invite someone to follow you. For example, look at the bottom of this post. I'm inviting readers to follow me without sounding desperate or spamming the comment section of their posts.
  • Join mini-communities within Scorum. On Discord and Telegram, there are channels that were created by members including @nhl and @gentlemanoi for Scorum users to meet each other, discuss topics, share posts and more. Join the Discord channel here
  • Interact like crazy while adding value to others. Providing insightful comments on Scorum has many benefits. Not only can you earn Scorum Power from them, you can start a conversation with the author and other readers, and gain new followers. This means no "nice post!" comments. Make sure to ask a question, make a comment about something in the post, or just share how you feel about the topic the article was about.
  • Give generously. If you're upvoting quality posts and comments and people can see that you are trying to do so, they are much more likely to follow you than if you are only upvoting your own comments and posts. Give to others to support Scorum and other community members, and you'll receive support in return.
  • Help recruit new members to Scorum. From posting about your Scorum journey on Twitter to asking friends to join to creating a video about Scorum, helping recruit new users will help you add to your follower count quickly. The user who recruited me (@lawlees) was the first person I followed and he was my first follower. If you recruit someone, you will also likely be their first follow.
