I've found myself feeling frustrated and angry over the last couple of days because it is clear that a number of scumbags are trying to scam people on this platform.
Sadly, this kind of scam isn't limited to Scorum, and people around the world are losing their hard earned cash to people with no moral compass.
I wanted to post this as a warning to anyone who may not be aware of these scams in the hope that it might stop someone from being tricked.
Here's what you need to look out for:
You may have noticed that trending posts have been inundated with comments from an account called @scorumpromotion.
What they're trying to do is lure you in to click the link by telling you that you'll receive free SP.
THIS IS A SCAM.
What will actually happen is that you'll end up losing everything you've earned. You may also provide them with access to your account so they can upvote posts on your behalf.
This may not be the only scammer on the platform so you may see slightly different messages. Whatever you do, do not click these links.
As you can see from the image above, I have responded to the comment informing others that it is a scam. This is the only thing I can think to do at the moment to warn others. If you see one of these comments, please do take the time to reply to it to tell people not to fall for it.
Solutions
I am not sure what the solution is at the moment as flagging the comment doesn't do anything other than reduce any potential rewards. A reputation system similar to Steemit's may be an option as it allows content from a user to be automatically hidden if the account's reputation falls below a certain amount.
For now, we must all remain vigilant to these scams. This is a great platform but people will try to exploit others in this way for their own gain. It's disgusting, and I'm not sure how they can sleep at night, but it's the same in all walks of life.
If you've been tricked already then try not to beat yourself up about it. You're not the first to be duped like this and you certainly won't be the last.
