Bastian Schweinsteiger decided to retire. The German footballer ended his status as a player after 20 years of a career.

Schweinsteiger's retirement decision was announced on his personal Twitter, @BSchweinsteiger. The 35-year-old player is hanging up his boots, after ending the season with Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer.

"For fans, the time has come, and I will end my active career at the end of the season," Schweinsteiger wrote in his statement

Schweinsteiger is one of the most successful footballers during his play. During his career, he only defended three clubs at the senior level namely Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and finally Chicago Fire.

Together with Bayern, Schweinsteiger won eight German League titles, 7 DFB Pokal titles, and one Champions League. While at Manchester United, Schweinsteiger only won once in the FA Cup in the 2015/2016 season.

Throughout his career, Schweinsteiger has a record 663 matches at club level by making 80 goals and 113 assists.

At the national team level, the tough midfielder led the German national team to win the 2014 World Cup and third place in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. While the European Cup, the husband of the former Ana Ivanovic player brought Germany to runner-up in 2008. In total, Schweinsteiger has 121 and 24 caps goals when costumed with Die Mannschaft.
