On June 28, Scorum Media Platform was published on Product Hunt. Our LLC Rina tells about how we prepared for this and what were the results.

Why did you choose Product Hunt?

Product Hunt is one of the most popular platforms for startups. There are sites like BetaList and Startups List, but PH is the "mother of all dragons" (other similar services are still at the level of baby-dragons 🐲). PH is very popular in America, and the traffic is larger.

What are the advantages of being featured on PH?

Listing on the PH is a good opportunity to draw public attention to your startup, attract new users and journalists, who might be interested in writing about the project.

How did the preparation begin? How long did the whole process take?

I started collecting the information in early June, when we launched our platform, and on June 28 the project was hunted. It all started with the fact that I had to read a bunch of articles on the internet. Most projects have a more or less similar tasks flow, but some points are different: some advise giving a direct link to the product page on PH, others - against doing so, some companies are looking for a hunter, and others hunt their product themselves. PH also has its own article on how to submit a product, but it's quite general: hunt yourself, be friendly, answer the comments, do not ask for upvotes... I enjoyed reading cases of Tilda, Crello and Serpstat, and they turned out to be very helpful.

Then I registered on Product Hunt to understand how it works and even got first stars. Based on the experience of other projects, I made a document with a checklist with all the requirements and texts: posts for social networks, templates for answers to questions, letters to hunters, tweets etc...

What was the most difficult part in preparation?

The most difficult part was to organize all the actions. The PH algorithm works in such a way that when upvoting a product, not only the number of votes, but also their quality is taken into account. Often projects that were supported by advanced users, but gained fewer upvotes, surpass their competitors by one or two times. Therefore, despite the fact that many members of the community expressed their desire to support us, their votes had little power, since they were on the platform for the first time.

Featuring on PH was a one-time event? Or do you plan to publish other Scorum services there?

Yes, definitely we plan to feature our other products as they launch: fantasy sports and the betting exchange for example.

Any ideas on improving the process?

Stars! Next time we need to pay more attention to the quality of upvotes, and not to their quantity. I want to use PH more actively and earn credibility, because if you're not a well established and respected user there, then it's going to be harder for you.

Also, making arrangements with tech media in advance might be a good idea.

Did the launch on PH meet your expectations? What did you manage to achieve?

Many startups wrote that after they got into PH daily newsletter, they were showered with proposals for publications in various media. And to be honest we also expected such proposals, but so far the response of the media is minimal. Perhaps the project is not that interesting for the media because of its subject matter and some competition.

Undoubtedly, being featured on PH was a great experience for us! We spent half the day in the first place and ended up in the PH daily newsletter as the product of the day #3, and now we are on third place in the "sports" category.

The most important thing is that we managed to attract new audience: not only did we receive lots of useful feedback, positive reviews and large number of visits to Scorum, but also attracted new users!
